Chapter 29: Distraction
Days passed
“Promise me, you’ll be my mommy,” Liam said before he sipped on his chocolate milkshake.
Scarlett and Liam were having an afternoon snack, right after arriving from school. She giggled and casually replied, “Okay.”
Diverting Liam’s attention, she read through his math notebook and said, “So, it says here, you talked about problem-solving.”
“Yes, it was boring,” said Liam. “My uncle Kyle is good at math.”
“Hmmmp.” Scarlett let out a laugh. She asked, “So you learned from your uncle Kyle?”
“Yes, and from my cousins, too. Brother Kenneth is really smart,” Liam revealed. “But he is sickly.”
“I see. Wonder why we did not get to see them yet.” Scarlett flushed at the thought of meeting more of Kaleb’s family. She was always curious about them. So far, she had only met Kyle. While he looked scary, apparently, he was nice after all.
“Sometimes, they come to visit, but most of the time, we meet at the office. There is a playroom there.” A big smile formed on his face when he revealed, “But I like our date even better.”
“I like our date, too,” Scarlett said, pinching Liam’s cute cheek.
Just as they were chatting and going over Liam’s lesson, one of the front desk at the hotel came inside the coffee shop to notify, “Miss Scarlett, I just would like to inform you that the studio unit on the thirty eighth floor will be available tomorrow. We already informed Mister Wright, but just in case you’d like to know, I came to update you.”
“Thank you,” Scarlett replied, and her eyes beamed at the idea of having a place on her own.
When she glanced at Liam, she saw him frown. He said, “Are you really leaving me?”
“Well, I’m not leaving you. I’m just going to live two floors down,” she reasoned. “Plus, I really need to study hard for the coming board exams.”
And your father is a great distraction,’ she inwardly reminded herself. Aside from having a place of her own, Scarlett doubted if she would ever get a decent study time, living in the same house with her sinful boyfriend
Just the other morning, while he did not invite her, she fell tempted to eat him after seeing his cucumber stand up beneath the blanket. It was… very recognizable. Scarlett was realizing her carnal desires for him were truly getting out of hand.
“You don’t love me?” Liam crossed his arms against his chest, saying, “You said you won’t leave me.”
“I love you and I won’t leave you. I just require a place of my own when I need it, okay? I can still spend time with you at the penthouse, but when I badly need to study, I’ll have to leave you with Boris or your daddy,” Scarlett explained. “Don’t you want me to become a lawyer?”
Pouting his lips, Liam sighed in submission, saying, “I do.”

“And after your exams? You can be my mommy, right?” Liam suggested with puppy eyes. He purposely moved closer and added, “Hmmmm?”
For a second, Scarlett just stared at him, beaming, but soon she answered, “If your daddy still wants me
too.”
“Of course he does!” Liam revealed. “Why would he keep telling me to remind you about being my mommy?”
“Liam, don’t forget to ask Scarlett about being your mommy, okay? She can’t say no to you,” Liam imitated his father. “Liam, give her that pouty look you always give me and she’ll say yes!”
“Remind Scarlett every day that I love her, just like I love you.” Liam smiled and reported, “He tells me that always.”
‘Sly man,’ Scarlett thought. However, the reminder of Kaleb, saying he loved her earnestly made her smile. She turned crimson red and remarked, “I’m glad he feels that way about me.”

The next day, it was inevitable. Scarlett moved out of the penthouse. It took her an entire day to clean up her own studio and put her things in order.
In the afternoon, she and Liam spent time at her small studio unit before she handed the young boy to Boris. She needed to start with her studies, and fast. Board exams were just six months away, and she badly needed a refresher.
It was only around eight in the evening when she started going over her old notes.
At a small study table, Scarlett was burning her brows when she received a picture message from Liam. She smiled, seeing a photo of him and his cousins.
Liam : [Scarlett, I’m staying over with my cousin Graham. Dad said I will see you on Sunday]
She quickly sent him a reassuring reply.
At around twelve in the evening, Scarlett received several texts from Kaleb.
Kaleb: [The bed is not the same without you.]
Scarlett chuckled. She contemplated replying, but she could not help it. She responded: [l need to study.]
Kaleb: (Why did you have to get a place of your own? When you can live with me and Liam?)
Scarlett: (We already talked about this. Even as we are simply texting now, you are still distracting me. Let me study (Kiss emoji)]
Kaleb: (Are you seducing me?]
Scarlett: (What?]
Kaleb: [You sent me that emoji that looked like it’s giving a blowjob!)
Scarlett: (Are you kidding me? How is a kiss a blowjob?]
Kaleb: (The way you talk about blowjobs makes me horny. It’s your fault. I’m coming over.)

Reading his last text, Scarlett froze. Her eyes widened as she frantically replied, telling him not to come over. However, only after ten seconds, her doorbell rang.
“Is that him already?” She sneered, making her way to the door. After peeking through the door hole, she muttered, “Was he waiting by the door the entire time?”
She opened the door with force, saying, “I told you I need to study, Kaleb.”
“I won’t disturb you. I promise.” Pointing to his sleeping attire, Kaleb suggested, “See? I’m ready to snooze. You can study while I rest in your bed. When you are done, let’s cuddle. Simple.”
“No, Kaleb. I don’t think that’s going to work -”
“It will,” Kaleb asserted. He winked at her and declared, “I’ll be a good boyfriend.”
She gave that sigh of defeat, and Kaleb quickly flashed a triumphant grin.
In the first hour. Kaleb was true to his word. He rested on Scarlett’s bed, all while checking his work email on his mobile. When he was done. He tried closing his eyes, but seeing his kitten seriously read through pages after pages, he went back to his phone.
After some time, he spoke, “Hey, I read this. I think this is really helpful.”
