Essie wiped the sweat off her forehead. Her carelessness just gave Zac the opening he needed.

With a bitter smile on her lips, she said, "I can't do that." She knew that in his heart, she was just a paltry substitute. She shouldn't let herself fall deeper into their pretense. She couldn't expect too much from him.
