Breaking The Routine

Chapter 16 Epilogue

                                                              One year later in Indianapolis...

Sam sighed as the hot water rushed over her. All the exam questions and her answers running through her mind, some she was sure she got right, others she knew she got wrong, but what was killing her was the majority of the questions which she wasn't sure if she had answered wrong or right. Her stomach twisted on itself with nervousness and the fear of her failing the exam was growing.

Only when the water turned ice cold and she started to shiver did Sam step out of the shower. "Relax Sam, just forget about it," she whispered to herself as she wrapped a towel around her but her body didn't listen to her. She dressed in her t-shirt and pajama pants even though it was only six in the evening. She snuck to her bedroom so she wouldn't disturb David while he was working. She grabbed her text book and flipped through the pages looking for the answers to the questions she was unsure about.

Sam jumped awake when her text book was removed from her hands. "Are you still freaking out over the exams Sam," David asked her with a hint of a smile. She rubbed her face sleepily and stretching her stiff limbs.

"I am not freaking out," she insisted. "I am concerned that's all, I don't think I did very well," Sam admitted and David wrapped his arms around her and pulled her towards him till her back was against his chest.

"You always say that Sam but this year will be just like the last and you will ace all of them," he told her sounding very confident but she didn't feel it. He nuzzled against the back of her neck causing the tension in her shoulders to ease and a small smile on her lips. "Sam, I have something very important I need to talk to you about," he stated sound serious.

"Of course David, is it serious? Something wrong," Sam asked starting to worry.

"Yes Sam, it's very serious," he told her and Sam's stomach started to twist. "We've been together now for a year," he started and Sam bit her lip as her concern increased. "It been great but I think it's time for a change," he stated and Sam bit harder into her lip. She simply nodded for him to continue while her breath caught in her throat. She knew it was going to come sooner or later, she knew it, he was breaking up with her!
