Capture Her Heart After Marriage

Chapter 40 What Was Your Relationship

Evelyn leaned on Chaim’s chest, explaining breathlessly, "I’m okay, it wasn’t much of a fall. It didn’t really hurt. Please don't worry..."

Evelyn covered her mouth and coughed weakly a few times, it being clear to Alexia that Evelyn was faking.

Chaim's frown tightened. "I'll call the doctor over."

"No need!" Evelyn said hurriedly, grabbing him as he was about to ring the bell. "Chaim, there's really no need to call a doctor. I'm fine."

"Are you really okay?" Chaim asked, narrowing his eyes as he surveyed her.

Evelyn gave him a weak smile. "It's really fine. Ask Ms. White if you don't believe me. It really wasn’t that big of a fall."

Hearing Evelyn mention Alexia, Chaim remembered Alexia was in the room.

Chaim helped Evelyn lean back against the pillow and pulled the covers over her before turning toward Alexia. "Tell me what the hell happened. How did Eve fall?"

Chaim’s questioning and accusatory tone made Alexia's heart hurt, so she picked up the necklace, got to her feet, and was about to speak when Evelyn butted in. "Chaim, it's not Ms. White's fault. She didn't push me on purpose. It was my fault. I fell, I wasn’t standing still."

‘What?’ Several questions popped into Alexia's head, one after another, and she stared at Evelyn in astonishment, unable to believe that not only was Evelyn evil, but she suddenly backtracking. She really was a black-hearted girl, one face for Chaim and another for the rest.

Noting that Alexia was hesitant to answer and the changing expression on her face, Chaim thought Alexia was hiding something, making him even more biased toward Evelyn.

"Is what Eve said true? Did you really push her?" He chilled Alexia to the core.

"I didn't push her!" Alexia squeezed the necklace in her hand and met his eyes with tears in her eyes, " Ms. Chi fell on her own. It had nothing to do with me!"

Alexia never wanted to do anything to Evelyn, regardless of how mean she was. When she moved to pick up the necklace, she was only going to move Evelyn's feet out of the way. She never wanted to harm her.

"You fell on your own?" Chaim asked, looking at Evelyn.

Evelyn shook her head, her eyes shining with tears and face full of aggression and helplessness, "Chaim, if Ms. White says she didn’t do it, then let her be. Let's pretend I really fell on my own."

"You..." Alexia started, her eyes wide with disbelief.
