When the secretary finally explained the situation to Quincy in full detail, his first reaction wasn't about how badly he was being dragged through the mud.

It was concern for Lydia. "Lydia never did anything wrong to me. She doesn't deserve this kind of treatment. Who's behind all of this?"

Even if Lydia was with someone else now, as long as the man treated her well, Quincy would feel no more than bitter regret. He would never blame Lydia for anything. She was a wonderful person, and it was his failure to be the husband she deserved that had led to their separation.
