"Have you been in touch with Nina?" Freya asked, trying to help. "Now that they live so close, if anything's up, she'd probably be the first to know."

Micah did consider calling, but a quick check of the time and mental calculation of the time zone gave him pause. It was already late evening over there, and Nina and the kids were likely asleep.
