It seemed like someone had upset Ben, leaving him in a sour mood, and now the assistant was left to smooth things over.

Jamie played along, cooperating seamlessly. Gradually, the conversation at their table became lively, with everyone shedding their initial stiffness.

Just as the atmosphere lightened, someone casually asked, "Jamie, have you ever thought about getting married?"

Ben's icy glare shot toward the speaker, sending a chill down their spine. The assistant's heart practically jumped out of his chest.

Thankfully, Jamie deflected the question effortlessly. "If I meet the right person, maybe. But for now, I haven't given it much thought."

The food soon arrived, shifting the focus.

Everyone ate and drank their fill before heading home. Many had one drink too many and were swaying unsteadily. The assistant took charge, making sure they were all sent home safely. Jamie, who had only sipped two glasses, was mostly fine, though her cheeks were flushed pink.

"Jamie, you'll be fine getting home on your own, right? If so, I'll head out." The assistant was carrying a drunken colleague on his back, who smacked him absentmindedly.

Jamie couldn't help but feel sorry for him and didn't want to make things harder. "Go ahead, I can get a cab myself."

"Alright then, I'll leave it to you."

The assistant hurried off. He wasn't remotely worried about Jamie's safety. With Ben watching over her, how could anything happen?
