Jamie froze.

Though she didn't meet his gaze, she could feel Ben's emotions lingering in the air. Her resolve wavered, but that unspoken thorn in her heart held her back. She stayed silent, even as Ben got up and left. After that, things between them shifted, the atmosphere growing subtly tense.

Even their assistant couldn't help but notice.

"Miss Lewis, is something going on with you and Mr. Lucas? You both seem...off," he ventured cautiously.

Jamie glanced at Ben, who was engrossed in a stack of documents, and quickly looked away. "Nothing at all. We're just focusing on work," she replied lightly.
