With Jamie's growing ambitions and dedication, her schedule became increasingly demanding. She was out early and back late, and soon, their time together became so staggered that Ben hardly saw her at all. Having already experienced separation, Ben deeply cherished every moment he spent with Jamie. Now, with her so busy, he wasn't having it.

That evening, he cornered her. "I used to think we could balance everything-home, work, and family. But look at us now. Jamie, are you really okay leaving me and Charlie alone at home? Do I need to make an appointment just to see you?" Jamie hadn't expected him to say that and let out a soft laugh. "I'm just busy right now, Ben. Once things settle down, I'll have more time for you, okay?"

She wanted to catch up to him, to stand beside him as his equal. She didn't want to just be known as Mrs. Lucas, the wife who depended on Ben. She wanted to be someone who could walk shoulder to shoulder with him.

Ben frowned, clearly unconvinced. "Jamie, once something becomes a habit, it's hard to stop it from repeating. I've been where you are and I know how this works. Do you really think you can brush me off that easily?" Jamie sighed, exasperated. "How am I brushing you off? Ben, you promised to support me. Now you're acting like you've changed your mind just because I'm busy. Is that it?"

Ben's lips pressed into a firm line. He didn't respond, but his silence spoke volumes.

In his mind, he suddenly found himself considering his mother's suggestion about having more kids. Maybe it wasn't such a bad idea after all.
