Chasing Back My Ex-wife
Chapter 61
Lucy's eyes flashed and her heart was in her mouth.
If she knew that Arthur would show up again, she would surely not have let Caden come!
"Have I seen you somewhere before?" Arthur had never liked children, but for some reason, he took a liking to this kid.
Lucy looked at Caden and desperately tried to signal him.
All of Arthur's attention was on Caden, so he didn't notice her weird behavior.
"No!" Caden hated his biological father very much and hid behind Kylah.
"Mr. Johnson, you must have mistaken him for someone else." Kylah felt nervous, but she didn't let it show at all. "My son goes to a kindergarten near our home. He wouldn't have had the honor of meeting a big shot like you!"
Why hadn't Lucy warned them that the sc*mbag would be here?!
"Yeah, this kid has common looks. Many people say he looks familiar, but they have never met him." Lucy's hands rested by her sides and her palms were clammy with sweat.
Seeing her like this, Caden felt even more hostile towards Arthur.
His mom used to be afraid of this bad guy, and she was still afraid of him now. He hated this bad guy!
Arthur looked at Caden a little longer, but he didn't press on any further.
Lucy secretly let out a sigh of relief, but she was still slightly worried.
She smiled and said, "Kylah, is Caden not going to kindergarten today?"
"Of course he's going! The little rascal was worried about you and had to come see you. We'll head off now!" Before it was too late, Kylah immediately carried Caden away.
Arthur was occasionally oblivious, but he was usually way too quick-witted. She had better take Caden away as quickly as possible!
When she reached the door, she turned back and grabbed the soymilk and butter cookies. "We haven't eaten, so I'm taking these!"
Lucy was speechless.
However, with Caden gone, she finally felt relieved.
She looked up at Arthur. "Do you want to eat something in the hospital?"
"Yeah." Arthur sat down expressionlessly and started peeling an apple.
After all, Lucy was hiding something, so she spoke more nicely than she usually did. "Then what would you like to eat?"
Arthur stopped peeling the apple but didn't say anything. He just looked at her empty bowl. He wanted to eat the same thing she had eaten!
"Broth won't be filling enough for you. I'll order two more sides for you." Since he didn't refuse, Lucy called for the nurse.
When the food arrived, Arthur had already finished peeling the apple and handed it to Lucy.
Lucy looked at the apple that seemed to have been peeled till only the core was left. After hesitating for a moment, she said, "Thank you."
In the past, it was she who had peeled apples for him. This was the first time he had peeled apples for her.
The two of them ate quietly, caught up in their own thoughts.
Arthur ate elegantly but quickly. He soon finished his food.
Sitting on the bed, Lucy looked at him, not knowing what to say.
He had never been one to talk much, and they shared very little common topics of interest. In the past, she had always been the one who searched for topics of conversation, but she no longer had the energy for that now.
"I will give you an explanation for this incident." Arthur suddenly said.
Lucy laughed, but there was no joy in her eyes. "That won't be necessary. I'll see to my own matters."
Arthur frowned slightly. "I told you that I'll handle it!"
"I also said that won't be necessary! Arthur, when I needed you, you weren't by my side, and now, I don't need you anymore!" Lucy raised her voice, and she teared up, but her tears did not fall.
Her trust and expectations for him had run out!
"You can handle it in your own way and I'll handle it in my own way." Arthur looked at her. Her eyes were red-rimmed and her body was tense as she looked at him, full of hostility. For some reason, his heart instantly softtened.
Lucy was momentarily stunned. She thought that he would stomp out of the room, but instead, he had lowered his voice and spoken gently.
But so what?
She wouldn't love him again, nor would she dare to!
"Have a good rest. Don't get angry. It's not good for your health." Arthur put her pillow down, and supported her back gently, helping her lie down.
For a moment, Lucy wasn't sure of what he wanted to do. She frowned and watched him peel the fruits, where he cut off more of the fruit than the skin!
They rarely had moments of peace like this. Arthur cut the fruits into slices and put them on a plate, then pushed it towards her.
Only after that did he stride out of the ward in his wrinkled suit.
Ring—
Ring—
While Lucy was in a daze, her phone rang. It was a call from Maddox.
"Which ward are you in?" His tone was urgent, unlike the usual.
"Wait a minute!" Lucy carefully got out of bed, opened the door, and checked the number. "1012."
