Convenient Marriage: Mr. Nelson's Love Trap
Chapter 22: Reluctant to Look into It
“Mom, I’m sorry. Please don’t leave me…”
Dolores’ words stunned Matthew; he looked down at her arms wrapped around his neck. His tender gaze fell on her face and she looked to be in immense pain and was close to hysterics.
Matthew frowned. “Dolores?”
Dolores couldn’t hear him. She appeared to be in a daze. She looked very troubled, but then very quickly, she came to her senses, let go of Matthew, and fell into a deep sleep. Matthew slowly straightened up, gazed at her for a couple of seconds before turning and leaving the room.
Helen sat on the sofa, holding a glass so tight her hand shook. Every second Matthew was in Dolores’ room was torture for her. Didn’t that woman need to take care of her mother in the hospital? Why did she have time to come back?
Helen knew about Abbott going to investigate Dolores and that was why Helen sent someone to A Country ahead of Abbott’s man. She’d managed to kill the woman who’d given Dolores the business . She made it look like the woman jumped to her death. It was also the reason why Abbott couldn’t find out the truth of what happened that night.
Helen used all her energy and resources to prevent Matthew and Dolores from spending time together. She’d paid all the people in Dolores’ mother’s apartment complex to gossip and slander Jessica and Dolores, resulting in Jessica’s hospitalization. With Jessica hospitalized, Dolores would have less time to spend with Matthew. But she hadn’t expected Dolores to arrive home so quickly.
Matthew even carried her into the house. Helen became distraught when she thought about that. As a result, she forgot to retain her composure. When Matthew came out of the room, he could plainly see the anger in Helen’s expression and walked over to her silently.
Helen, noticing Matthew, stood up and blurted out a question. “Is Ms. Flores ill?”
Matthew didn’t answer immediately and sat on the sofa. He crossed his slender legs and slowly looked up at Helen indifferently, not revealing his thoughts.
Helen was gripped with anxiety as she didn’t understand Matthew’s mannerisms.
She cautiously tried again. “Matthew…”
“What?” He grinned, “What’s up?”
