It was but a moment, yet to Alicia, it felt like an eternity. She saw the hurt and heartbreak in Narissa's eyes, and it sliced her heart to pieces, tearing the remnants of her dignity apart. "I'm sorry."

Unable to face anyone, Alicia let go of Jamie and escaped into her room like a scared kitten. Despite the short journey, she still managed to bump into the doorframe, and it bruised her shoulder.
