Chapter 6 Is There Pure Friendship Between Men and Women?

He dodged slightly, avoiding her hand. “It’s okay. I can hold it myself.” Lysanne smiled lightly and gently said, “Look at all these people. They won’t stop until they drink you under the table today. Give it to me. You focus on dealing with them.” Josiah hesitated for a moment but did not refuse again. She took the suit jacket off his arm and did not put it aside, holding it in her own hands. Suddenly, she gently tugged at his sleeve, indicating that he should lower his head. He obediently bent down slightly to accommodate her height and leaned his ear close to her lips. She whispered something in his ear, and a glint passed through his eyes as he smiled and nodded gently at her. “Hey, what secrets are you guys whispering about?” Lysanne, with a cheerful personality, spoke up directly, “I’ll tell you all. Josiah is under my protection, so be careful with your words, and don’t let him drink too much.” “Oh, are you feeling sorry for him, Lysanne?” Lysanne blushed slightly. “Oh, stop it, you big oaf.” Josiah furrowed his brows slightly. “Don’t talk nonsense. Lysanne is already married. Can’t you see she’s pregnant?” These classmates seemed to be afraid of him. Once he spoke, no one dared to joke around recklessly anymore, and they all restrained themselves. A man standing next to him then chimed in, “Alright, enough already. Don’t talk nonsense just because you’ve had a few drinks. The friendship between Josiah and Lysanne is unbreakable.” “Yeah, even if they were to book a hotel room together, it would definitely be to play games together. These people are always talking nonsense.” At that moment, Lysanne discreetly placed a wine decanter in Josiah’s hand, which was filled with a clear liquid that looked just like white wine at first glance. But Lysander saw everything as she was standing nearby. Taking advantage of the conversation, Lysanne had emptied the white wine from the decanter and replaced it with mineral water. Josiah cooperated tacitly with Lysanne as he quickly took the glass in her hand and filled his wine glass while saying, “Here’s to everyone.” “Here’s to our student days!” “Here’s to youth!” This was what a class reunion was all about—chatting about the days of studying and reminiscing about the silly and naive moments of the past. In the end, everyone was swaying from drinking except for Josiah, whose face was only slightly flushed, but his mind was still clear. He unbuttoned his collar and rolled up the sleeves of his shirt to his elbows where the deep blue sleeve garters secured around his biceps. His slender fingers pushed up the gold-rimmed glasses on his nose with elegance and grace that made him look tall and noble. But then, he suddenly frowned slightly as he looked around before fixing his gaze on a male classmate not far away.
