Chapter 123
Suddenly, Jareth went pale as a ghost.
He didn’t even see how Evadne’s hand moved. By the time he realized what was happening, there was a knife in his throat!
A butterfly knife, one of the most infamous weapons out there, was sneaky and lethal. With a swift flick of the fingers, it could deliver a dangerous and wickedly cool effect.
A girl brandishing something like that at him like it was nothing? That’s cold-blooded and ruthless!
“Back off, Jareth.” Evadne squinted slightly, the gleaming blade of the knife lightly tapping his cheek, “Even if every other man in the world disappeared, I still wouldn’t choose
you.”
“What if it was just me and Thaddeus left in the world, who would you choose?” Jareth asked, his heart pounding in his chest.
Evadne chuckled coldly. “Still not you.”
In that moment.
The always arrogant Mr. Jareth’s heart shattered like gla**, sca ttering all over the floor.
Just then, the office door opened.
“Evadne, what’s going on here?” Cas sius stood at the doorway, looking surprised.
Evadne’s eyes narrowed slightly, quickly stashing away the butterfly knife, and then smiled, “Brother, why didn’t you let me know you were stopping by?”
Her facial expressions sure can change quickly!
Jareth stiffly stood up, his eyes red as he gave Evadne one last look before walking out, heartbroken.
Cas sius shot him a glance, finding his usual arrogance completely gone, which left him feeling quite speechless.
In all of Elmsworth, the only woman who could make Mr. Jareth lose his cool like that was Evadne.
“Bro!” Evadne happily ran up and hugged Cas sius around the neck, “How’s your wound?”
“I’ve been unwrapped for a while now. What do you think?”

Cas s ius, like when they were kids, picked up his little sister and spun around, “It’s just a flesh wound. I’m not that fragile.”
His past profession would probably give even Emeric a scare.
Who would have thought that the leader of the largest underground gang in Windhelm, the man who controlled Skyrim, Elmsworth, and several other gangs in neighbouring countries, would be this gentle and cultured man?
At some point, he gave up his leadership position, quit the underworld, and cut ties with the dark forces.
Even Evadne couldn’t understand how a man who had never killed, never bullied the weak, and didn’t smoke or drink could have become a gang leader.
Beneath his gentle smile, there lay deep secrets.
“What happened with Mr. Jareth?”
Cas sius chuckled helplessly, “I don’t know how he treats others, but he’s pretty sincere towards you. Even if you don’t give him a chance, you shouldn’t slap his face with a knife. Men have their pride, especially one who’s the future heir of the Jareth group.”
“If I didn’t do that, he would keep chasing me.”
Evadne rubbed her temples, looking tired, “People always say men care about their dignity, but considering how Jareth chases after me, he obviously didn’t care about his. If I didn’t take action, he would keep messing around with me. This can’t go on forever. In short, now I’m back to be Evadne. I don’t want to mess with Thaddeus’s people anymore. I know I might have gone a bit overboard this time, but I didn’t have any other choice. Short-term pain is better than long-term suffering, right?”
“Sometimes I wish you could be a bit more like Ilana.” Cas sius sighed lightly.
“That’s impossible because I’ve already dealt with Ilana.”
Evadne leaned tiredly against Cas sius’s leg.
Cas sius smiled slightly, placing his hand on her temple and gently ma**aging it.
“Brother, do you have some new information?” Evadne closed her eyes, looking content.
“Clever Evadne, you can probably guess.”
“Is it you’ve thought of some ways to deal with the Abernathy group?” Evadne asked lazily.
“If you’re tired, I can take care of Ms. Acacia for you.” Cas sius kept his smile, his expression inscrutable.
“No, I’m going to deal with Acacia myself. If I don’t personally take care of her, she might have lots of regrets in her life.” Evadne squinted her eyes, a cold light flashing in them.
She would make anyone who dared to offend her pay!
Cas sius handed Evadne a manila folder.
“What’s this?” Evadne took it curiously, pulling out the documents to take a closer look. Her spirits immediately lifted.
“The Abernathy group won the new project in Westguard, Elmsworth. The project was handed over to Elspeth by Mr. Thaddeus. This project is expected to bring huge profits and lots of room for manipulation, as well as extend their connections in Elmsworth. More importantly, Elspeth could potentially use this project to climb another rung in the company and challenge Thaddeus. Despite her acting background, she’s very ambitious and has always wanted to extend her control over the Abernathy group.”
“Extend control over the Abernathy group? Haha, she’s dreaming big. Does she think she can bite off more than she can chew?”
Evadne looked at the documents in her hands, her eyes flashing with determination, “The empire that Mr. Hamiltion built by himself, even if Thaddeus can’t protect it, it’s not Elspeth’s turn to call the shots.”
“Get your head into these documents tonight. The Abernathy group couple is meeting Mr. Bartley at the Wye golf course in Elmsworth at 1 p.m. the day after tomorrow. It’s probably to push forward with that collaboration.”
Cas sius patted Evadne’s shoulder, saying, “The ball’s in your court for my revenge.”

Chapter 123
“Cut the cr ap. You’re my brother, and you think I don’t know what you’re up to?”
Evadne tilted her head slightly, leaning on Cas sius’s shoulder. “You know me, I’m not one to let things slide. If I’m already taking action, why don’t you help me prep everything? Let me indulge in a little payback; it would cheer me right up.”
“Evadne, don’t see right through me. Leave me some dignity,” Cas sius lightly pinched her face.
“Bro. I’m a grown-up now. I’m already 24, and I’m even divorced.”
