Liam arrived in the ally an hour ago. He was in the middle of a meeting with a scientist from Hong Kong when his sister had called. The news about Clare’s encounters was beyond unsettling, and had him storming out of the building.

He barely made it to a confined space before his fury reached his skin. Kalbreal was supposed to watch over her. Liam never trusted the guy, always thought he was too young and tacky, but his sister seemed to think different at the time. Now, not so much. Liam had no idea why he’d expected Kalbreal to be able to keep Clare safe, but then he always had a soft spot for his sister and forgot how trusting she was.

A lapse of judgement he had no intention of repeating.

Barely a week gone since he’d seen his princess. And two days since his sister had shadowed her and already she was in danger. That of a mortal kind, not the immortals who were actually hunting her down. To say he was having a bad day was understating it.

The one good thing that came from his day was the reason he was still dressed in a silver Armani suit and black Italian coat standing in an alley where he was certain deceptors used as a toilet going by the stench of urine and other smells he was not going to acknowledge, or decipher. It was one of the few places he couldn't be tracked to, the stench would put off almost anyone.

His black layered hair blew in all angles as the wind swept through the narrow space. The two buildings he stood between, housed street kids and a shelter for woman. He didn't like the way the earth turned out. He always helped, but being immortal, he wasn't allowed to intervene enough to make a difference. It was an unspoken law. To help the deceptors were to curse them. They needed to learn from their mistakes. As long as they ruled with power and greed they would continue to fall. He just hoped the deceptors learned differently before it was too late.

Sliding his hands in his coat pockets, waiting the minutes before his visitor arrived. An early arrival was his small price at making sure he wouldn't be tracked. Knowing the shady character he was dealing with Liam wouldn't put it pass the man.

It had taken days to track down anybody with some answers involving anything concerning Clare. And extra days in making a decision when he barely scratched the surface about the young Lightwatcher. But he was immortal with no regrets and until he knew for sure, he wasn't taking chances with Clare’s life.
