I Am Unstoppable

Chapter 247

“Yeah, you're right!” Lailah took the beer over and began chugging it down.

Jonathan, too, helped himself to a can of beer.

The radio in the Beetle was playing a popular Ustranasian song at the time.

Since Jonathan and Lailah were both incredibly fluent in Ustranasian, they had no issues understanding the lyrics. Besides, music was capable of transcending language barriers and cultural differences anyway.

It was the ending song for The Twilight Saga titled Leave Out All The Rest.

“I dreamed I was missing. You were so scared, but no one would listen cause no one else cared.

After my dreaming, I woke with this fear.

What am I leaving when I'm done here?

So, if you're asking me, I want you to know.

When my time comes, forget the wrong that I've done.

Help me leave behind some reasons to be missed, and don't resent me.

And when you're feeling empty, keep me in your memory.

Leave out all the rest! Leave out all the rest!

Lailah froze when she heard that, and her face was all covered in tears.

Upon seeing her reaction, Jonathan knew without a doubt that Gideon must've killed her father. That must be why she's in so much pain right now. I can understand the pain she's going through. She hates herself for being ignorant and helpless. She wants to get revenge but isn't able to do so. Lance could easily squash Gideon like a bug, but his status is pretty much on the same level as Divine Emperor! We're so weak that even someone like Frost could crush us with ease, so there's no way we'd stand a chance against Gideon. Besides, Lailah won't just be going against Gideon alone. She'll have to fight the entire Divine Realm if she chooses to seek revenge.

“Lailah, I have a favorite quote that I'd like to share with you. Would you care to hear it?” Jonathan asked.

Lailah shot him a glance and said, “Go ahead.”

“No journey is too long for those who are willing to take the first step and keep pushing forward. I know what's bothering you even without you telling me. So what if you're going against Gideon? So what if Divine Realm is really powerful? If there's a will, there's a way! If we take things one step at a time, you might just be able to avenge your parents and kill Gideon!” Jonathan paused and looked at her before continuing, “Wallowing in pain and sadness won't do you any good. If anything, it'll only give you more nightmares.”

There was a cold glint in Lailah's eyes as she clenched her fists and said, “Oh, I will get my revenge on that b*stard even if I have to die in the process. I'm sad because I have wronged my deceased parents with my foolishness all these years. I can't believe I've been treating a bast*rd like a father this whole time!”

“One who errs unknowingly need not be held responsible. I'm sure your parents won't blame you for that,” Jonathan reassured her.

“Yeah, I suppose you're right. I'll drink to my heart's content tonight and pick myself together tomorrow!” Lailah said with a nod after chugging down the rest of her beer.

Jonathan chuckled as he handed her another can of beer. “I'll drink with you!”

“Look, this grudge of mine is between me and Gideon. I don't want you to get involved in this, okay? If I die going after Gideon, then so be it. You do not have to die along with me, is that clear?” Lailah reminded him after taking a few sips of her beer.

“Don't worry. I know what I'm doing!” Jonathan replied with a faint smile.

He didn't specify what he would do as he wasn't sure how he would react if things got to that extent.

Having recalled something, Jonathan asked, “Wait, why did you testify for me if you have a grudge against Gideon? Wouldn't that give away your identity? That would surely make Gideon suspicious of you, right? You could've landed yourself in deep water if Lance didn't help out!”

“We are friends, after all. Besides, you saved my life once, so I couldn't just sit around and watch you die!” Lailah replied after taking a sip of her beer.

“Thanks...” Jonathan mumbled in response as he sipped on his beer.

The two of them then carried on drinking without saying another word.

Eventually, Lailah started getting drunk after having one too many beers.

Jonathan felt somewhat conflicted when he sensed the increasing sexual tension in the car.

On the one hand, he felt like he was cheating on his wife Catherine.

On the other hand, he felt bad for Lailah as he couldn't provide her with a future.

“Let's head back,” Lailah said coldly.

Jonathan grabbed her hand and asked, “What if I'm serious about this?”

Lailah shot him a glance in response. “What do you mean? Are you going to marry me?” she asked with a hint of sarcasm in her voice.

Jonathan fell silent when he heard that.

“Need I remind you that you're married, Jonathan? Besides, you could be single and I still wouldn't marry you,” Lailah added.

Jonathan lifted his head all of a sudden and looked Lailah right in the eyes as he said, “I'm not screwing around, Lailah. Marriage and love are pointless traditions that mortals enjoy. I will not let them bind me. Just remember that you're my woman, so I will share your burden and face the consequences together with you. You may rest assured that I am not kidding when I say this. You know full well I'm capable of honoring my promise.”

Lailah froze when she heard that. For the first time ever, there was a trace of warmth in that icy-cold heart of hers. It wasn't clear if she fell in love with him or simply felt touched by his words, but she chose not to comment on it.

“Let's just get going.”

Jonathan nodded and started driving back to Sunny Condo.

“What do you plan on doing next?” he asked along the way.

“Legend has it that Divine Emperor once went to a place called 'Eonetara Gate.' Having learned everything about life and death, he gained an unimaginable amount of power after leaving the place. I plan on checking it out to see if I can find anything useful,” Lailah replied.

“I'll go with you.”

“No, that won't be necessary. I know your luck can ward off all sorts of disasters, but I want to do this on my own.” Lailah paused for a few seconds before continuing, “I've always been alone, Jonathan. It wasn't luck that got me this far in life. I'm capable of handling my own affairs, and I have the right to decide what I want to do. I hope you will respect my decision.”

Jonathan could tell that Lailah cared about him even though she was acting all cold and distant. He also knew that she was really determined to do this on her own.
