I Am Unstoppable

Chapter 296

The warm and pleasant light from the setting sun shining through the window could make anyone forget about their troubles.

Then, Jonathan heard footsteps outside before Mabel knocked on the door.

“It's time to eat, Jonathan!” shouted Mabel.

When Jonathan got out of bed and opened the bedroom door, he saw delicious food, accompanied by a large bag of his favorite stout, on the table.

The dishes smelled so good that it would be almost impossible for anyone to not drool over them.

“Did you prepare these?” Jonathan asked Mabel excitedly.

In response, Mabel rolled her eyes at the man. “What do you think? I would've been married by now if I could cook. I got my subordinates to deliver the food.”

“I see.” Jonathan knew Mabel was incapable of such a feat, so he wondered why he even bothered asking. Between the two of us, it's probably easier to believe that I'm the one who can cook.

At that moment, Beatrix, too, came out of her room.

“Please have a seat, Ms. Lachman,” voiced Mabel courteously. “I hope the food is to your liking.”

After everyone had taken their seat, Jonathan took a big gulp of beer.

“Just call me Beatrix. It sounds weird when you call me Ms. Lachman,” said Beatrix to Mabel with a smile.

Smiling in kind, Mabel responded, “Sure!”

“Here's a toast to you, Beatrix!” uttered Jonathan as he lifted his can. “Since this is our first time drinking together, we're not going anywhere until we're both drunk!”

“And where do you plan to go when you are?” inquired Beatrix while looking at Jonathan, who was surprised by her dry humor.

However, the casual chat did not last long before Jonathan got serious and started discussing the baby ghost investigation.

“It may be a stupid plan, but it's a plan nonetheless. It sure beats sitting around doing nothing,” commented Beatrix, showing that she agreed with the idea by nodding.

“My people have just checked the hospitals nearby. The fact that the news of the Infant King going berserk has reached Yaleview means he's not far from the city,” stated Mabel.

To that, Jonathan nodded in agreement. “I think so too.”

“For now, only one hospital meets the criteria. It's in Lightspring, and it's called Peacewood Hospital. However, the place will be shut down soon because of how terrible it's been doing,” informed Mabel.

“That's only natural. How do you expect it to do well when it's surrounded by negative energy and bad geomancy?” questioned Jonathan rhetorically.

Hence, Beatrix suggested, “Then let's not waste any more time. We'll go to Peacewood Hospital tonight.”

“Okay. Most of the hospital's profit comes from those who wish to get an abortion. Even now, many young women are hospitalized there,” said Mabel.

Since most people preferred to keep their abortions a secret, they would go to illegal clinics instead of reputable hospitals to avoid bumping into people they knew, so it was only natural that they had no problem getting the procedure done at Peacewood Hospital.

“We'll need someone with a Third Eye. Is Chief Yount coming with us?” inquired Jonathan.

“He can't come because he has other matters to attend to tonight.” After pausing for a while, Mabel added, “However, he told me how to activate one's Third Eye. All we have to do is apply Cow's Tears on our eyes, and we'll be able to see anything supernatural.”

Jonathan scratched his head after hearing that. “How are we going to find Cow's Tears in Yaleview?”

“Chief Yount's already asked someone to deliver it. I have it with me,” informed Mabel as she took out a small porcelain bottle.

“What we're about to do is pretty dangerous. I mean, what if we actually find the Infant King's subordinate? What's more important to Chief Yount than your life?” questioned Jonathan, who felt that they would be safer if Jeff tagged along because he knew the man's cultivation level was high enough to compete with that of the masters of Divine Realm.

On top of that, he was convinced that luck would not always side with him and that he had to be practical. Nothing beats being prepared for the worst.

Mabel smiled somewhat bitterly while voicing, “As chief of a division at the Department of National Security, he has many confidential and important matters to attend to. I know he's already done all he can to help. Besides, we're just investigating tonight. We can get him to rush over when we have reliable information.”

Seeing how understanding Mabel was, Jonathan decided to leave Jeff alone.

It was already six o'clock in the evening when they finished their meal.

Since the sun set earlier in the north, the sky had already darkened when the three packed their things and went downstairs.

Then, they got into a military car, with Jonathan in the driver's seat and the women in the back.

Since Jonathan was the only man among the three, it was only natural that he should be the one driving.

Jonathan felt uneasy for some reason, so he turned to Mabel. “Can you get me a couple of high-explosive grenades?”

“What do you want them for?” inquired Mabel, stunned by the request.

“To defend myself, of course! They are still pretty powerful even though experts would know how to avoid the explosion. I wonder what they'll do to spirits,” answered Jonathan, rendering both Mabel and Beatrix speechless.

“I don't think that's necessary,” stated Mabel. “We're looking for unborn baby ghosts. How powerful can they be?”

Somehow, Jonathan became even more persistent after hearing Mabel. “It's better to be safe than sorry. Plus, I don't believe anyone can be too careful.”

“Fine. However, this will take some time because of the paperwork,” uttered Mabel, preferring not to argue with Jonathan.

“That's fine. We can wait!”

“Okay. Then drive to the west side of the military base first,” Mabel instructed Jonathan, who then immediately started the car.

It was ten o'clock at night when Jonathan and the others started making their way to Lightspring.

Jonathan only learned how strict the military was after seeing how much effort it took even for someone in Mabel's position to get the explosives.

She did not get the grenades until she had signed document after document.

However, it was understandable since it would be devastating if weapons as destructive as grenades were to fall into the wrong hands.

Like Jonathan, the military thought there was no such thing as being too careful.

Lightspring was less than one hundred kilometers away from Yaleview, and since Jonathan drove fast, the trio arrived at their destination in only an hour.

At eleven o'clock that night, there was no moon or star in the sky, just thick dark clouds.

Even though Lightspring was not as lively as Yaleview in the evening, its city lights were still quite impressive.

After finding Peacewood Hospital on the GPS, Jonathan drove straight to the place on the east side of Magpie Street, which was not too far from the city.

People of Lightspring called that location Styx Street because of a strange phenomenon there.
