Clarissa finally reacted to what Mr. Fontaine said: that her character was not as good as Kathryn's.

By now, Clarissa realized everyone believed what Mr. Jimenez, Audrey, and the others said she was the murderer who killed her elder and younger sisters.

"Clarissa, there are witnesses and evidence, yet you still deny killing the head of the family! She loved you like her own daughter, and this is how you repay her? Don't you feel guilty at all? Has your conscience been eaten by a dog?" Mr. Jimenez angrily accused her. Suddenly, Clarissa snapped, admitting, "Yes, my conscience has been eaten by a dog. I killed my sisters. So what?"

sisters-did people really think it didn't hurt her? She had been an orphan from a young age, her father and mother gone, leaving her only her sisters.
