Chapter 347 Her Profound Regret
Cecelia cleverly dodged the attack and engaged in a fight with the burly man inside the room for several minutes. In the end, she kicked the knife out of the man’s hand and successfully subdued him.
All the kidnappers inside the room were apprehended by Cecelia, tied up together, and she then rushed to find the children.
She first found her own son, Cyrus, used a knife to cut the ropes binding him, and gently tapped her son’s small face, saying, “Cyrus, wake up, Cyrus…”
Cyrus showed no signs of waking up, so Cecelia made a call, “Hello, Remington, hurry! I’ve found our son! Call an ambulance… Captain Shawn is injured!”
After ending the call, Cecelia checked Hubert, cut the ropes binding him as well, and then carried both children out one by one.
As Winnie watched Cecelia take the children away, she wanted to call out to her for help, but she couldn’t make a sound.
Winnie then looked at her husband, who was unconscious on the ground, and struggled to crawl towards him.
Not long after, Cecelia returned to the underground chamber. She looked at Roger, then at Winnie, who was wriggling on the ground, and proceeded toward Winnie with a knife in hand.
Winnie watched the blade in Cecelia’s hand and her cold gaze. She couldn’t help but feel a bit frightened.
Considering her past actions, constantly causing trouble for Cecelia, and their numerous conflicts, Winnie wondered if Cecelia would take this opportunity to take her life.
Cecelia approached Winnie, grabbing her collar, and pressed the icy blade against her face.
“Mrs. Shawn, should I save you? You’ve always hated and disliked me, always causing trouble for me. Should I just end your life with one stroke of the blade? We can say it was the kidnappers tearing you apart, and no one will suspect anything. What do you think?”
Winnie trembled in fear, tears in her eyes, and shook her head, wanting to beg Cecelia to spare her.
She had realized her mistakes!
She wanted to apologize to Cecelia, but she hadn’t found the right time yet.
“Guess what, if I make that cut, will it be your throat that gets slashed?”
Cecelia sneered, lifted the blade in her hand, and then brought it down high, making Winnie close her eyes in fear.
Thinking that her fate was sealed, Winnie was shocked to find that the blade didn’t cut her throat but instead severed the ropes binding her.
Cecelia efficiently untied her and removed the duct tape from her mouth.
“Winnie, remember this: I spared your life. I’m not sparing you because I’m afraid of being implicated; it’s because I don’t want Hubert to grow up with a single parent.”
Cecelia finished speaking, stood up, and turned to leave.
But at that moment, Winnie grabbed her by the foot, tears of gratitude and remorse streaming down her face.
Cecelia could have killed her, but she saved her instead. This act of repaying evil with kindness truly made Winnie deeply regret her past actions. She regretted not realizing her mistakes earlier.
With tears streaming down her face, Winnie clung to Cecelia’s ankles and cried, “Miss Linsey, I’m sorry… I’m so sorry… I know I was wrong, terribly wrong. I shouldn’t have been biased and misunderstood you out of jealousy…
“I shouldn’t have slandered you, insulted you. I’m sorry, Miss Linsey, please forgive me. I really know I was wrong…”
Winnie sobbed uncontrollably, and her remorse came from the depths of her heart.
Cecelia remained silent for a moment and then spoke, “We didn’t have any conflicts to begin with. If you feel guilty and want to apologize, you should apologize to your husband, Captain Shawn.
“You betrayed his trust and love for you by constantly doubting him and acting irrationally due to your jealousy. It’s these suspicions and your bossy, immature behavior that nearly caused your marriage to fall apart.
“If you and your Roger end up divorcing, it’s not my concern; it’s something you caused yourself.
“You’ve seen it yourself, despite the cold war between you and Captain Shawn, when he found out that you and Hubert were in danger, he risked his life to come to your rescue. Winnie, you have such a good husband; you should appreciate him and not wait until you lose him to regret.”
After saying these words, Cecelia turned and walked out of the basement.
Winnie’s eyes were filled with tears. She had truly repented, understood where she had gone wrong, and knew what she needed to do.
She crawled toward her husband, reaching Roger’s side, and cried, “Honey, wake up…”
After she repeatedly called his name, Roger gradually regained consciousness.
“Honey, you’re awake!”
Winnie shed more tears, and Roger, once awake, anxiously asked, “Winnie, are you okay? What about our son?”
“We’re fine. We’re all fine now, thanks to Miss Linsey who saved us.”
Winnie helped her husband up and sincerely apologized, “I’m sorry, honey. I know I was wrong, truly wrong. I suspected you all the time, argued with you and had a bad temper. I will change. Please forgive me… I can’t live without you…”
Seeing her genuine remorse, Roger embraced her and said, “I was also at fault. I will pay more attention to you and our son in the future. Only when we stand together as husband and wife can we lead a good life.”
Finally, they reconciled, supporting each other as they walked out of the basement.
