Just when I thought he’d let me go, he ripped the necklaces from my neck, making my heart thud, the stinging pain where they had cut into my skin making me gasp. “I told you, the only thing that should be around this neck is my hand.”

He let go of me and turned away, leaving me frozen for a moment.
