According to Lilian, Armand knew he had heart problems, but he couldn't find a suitable heart for himself. He was afraid that he could die anytime, so he went to look for Jack and told him everything. He also told Jack to take care of Genevieve and the kids.

Did you know what his reply was?” Lilian wiped the tears off of her face. “He said he was with you in Dartan for more than four years, but all you cared about was Armand. He knew that even if Armand were to die, you still wouldn't want to be with him. He said he had his personal reasons for what he was doing. With his heart in Armand's body, you'll be loving him as well when you love Armand. Genevieve, he was a healthy person, you know? Yet he made such a decision for you.”
