Next One Is a Babe

Chapter 1580

His expression had morphed back to one of calm after his initial shock.

Cindy did like Ian’s unfazed personality, but looking at how he was now was infuriating. She had spouted so much stuff at him, but here he was, looking like he didn’t care. It made her feel a little awkward.

She raised her voice a little. “Don’t give me that attitude. Speak if you’ve got something on your mind. Don’t make it look like I’m trying to pick a fight with you over nothing.”

At last, Ian let out a laugh. “You go first. Tell me what you have on your mind.”

Now that took Cindy by surprise.

She pressed her lips together, and after a few moments, she spoke. “You treated me badly when you had too much to drink last time. I want to know what triggered it. What did I do to make you angry?”

Ian thought about it for a bit. Cindy hadn’t done anything to provoke him then; it was purely a problem on his end. He was the one overthinking things and getting too hung up over them. That was why he took his temper out on her.

So, he just stated that. “It was a problem with my mental state. It’s got nothing to do with you. I was in the wrong.”

“What about this time, then? What’s up with you just now? Why did you ignore me earlier again?” Cindy then asked.

Ian didn’t answer her question. Instead, he asked, “How was your meal?”

Cindy froze for a moment before reflexively answering, “It went quite well, actually. You didn’t want to go even when I asked you out earlier.”

Ian turned to look out of the window. With his back facing Cindy, he spoke again. “Looks like you two are getting along well.”

Cindy’s forehead creased up. “What are you trying to say?”

Ian took a deep breath. “Nothing. I just want to remind you that in the eyes of the public, we’re a couple. There are spying eyes everywhere. Whatever you do will directly reflect on me. I don’t want you to end up causing trouble for me.”

Cindy gave it some thought and immediately understood what Ian was implying. He was telling her to be careful in case someone discovered that she had gone for dinner with Gary. There would be news articles about Cindy cheating on Ian if that happened.

So he’s upset purely because I went out to eat with Gary alone?

But I did ask him to come along at first. He was the one who refused my invitation. Ian heard her phone call with Gary, and he knew that she had already agreed to it. She couldn’t possibly renege on her word. So when he refused to go with her, she had to show up alone.

He’s clearly the reason behind all this. Why did the blame fall on me in the end? Cindy wasn’t quite happy with this, and her voice turned a tad solemn. “What are you implying? You think that I’m having an inappropriate relationship with Gary? That I’ll end up affecting your reputation?”
