Chapter 48
“The higher-ups have given the order. Anything involving Serenity Lewis can’t be published,” said the editor -in-chief.
Sam was astonished. “Is it because of pressure from the Shaw family? No, that didn’t make sense. When Jenny had that incident at the Sanitation Office, he wrote a report about Jenny and there was no problem at all. How come they could not write about Serenity Lewis?
“No, not the Shaw family. All right, enough questions. The bottom line is, if this story gets out, not only will you have to quit being a reporter, I might have to quit too,” said the editor-in-chief.
Sam stared at him in disbelief. What the editor-in-chief said… was too shocking.
“Serenity Lewis… She’s just a sanitation worker. Who would be so protective of her?”
“You’re too green, In this world, there are always things that are beyond your imagination, the editor-in- chief said with a sigh. In truth, he himself did not expect that it was Jackson Valor who wanted to protect Serenity Lewis. It was completely unbelievable.
Meanwhile, Jackson Valor was watching Serenity clean up the table. He suddenly said, “I heard Jenny Hall, the woman who made you look for the ring, went to the Sanitation Office to apologize today.

“Mm-hmm,’ Serenity replied, “But I already gave Xyla her apology gift.”
“Does that mean you saw Zeke Shaw today? I saw on the news that he went along with her,” he said while carefully watching her reaction.
“Yeah, I saw him,” said Serenity, her face calm. She looked as if she was just talking about a stranger who appeared in the gossip column.
He gave her a peek, then suddenly got up and walked over to her. “Are you sad?”
She looked up at him. She seemed to have understood something, so she smiled and said, “Are you
worried about me? Don’t worry, I wouldn’t feel sad for a man like him.”
Worried? His gaze deepened. There appeared to be something else there besides worry…
She rubbed his head. She seemed to be doing that a lot lately.
“I’m not going to be sad for someone who doesn’t love me. If I do feel sad, that means I love the person a
lot.” Therefore, she was glad that she did not feel sad when she saw Zeke Shaw,
She was also glad that Zeke Shaw and her did not end up getting married back in the days,
Thanks to the tragedy, she was able to see his true character. It was a silver lining.
“Will you be sad for me one day?” Jackson asked.
He was so possessive of her that he even wanted to own her negative emotions.
