Chapter 190
“But even if I do get promoted, I still won’t be good enough for you, will 1?” he asked.
Serenity was at a loss for words,
Peter smiled wryly and added, “Actually, even before you said those things to me, I’d already thought about changing jobs. I can already see how the rest of my career will pan out if I keep working in the Sanitation Office. I want to find some new challenges before I turn 30.”
Challenges? If the old Serenity had to choose between an unknown life full of challenges or a stable life that had everything planned out, she would probably choose the former.
But after all the things she had been through, she now knew that stability was actually the most important thing in life
Serenity took a deep breath and said, “You don’t have to take what I said that day to heart. I just don’t want you to keep wasting your time on me. I don’t have that kind of feeling for you, so it wouldn’t work out between us.”
After a pause, she told him slowly and clearly, “If I really do love you, then no matter how terrible your situation is, I’ll still choose to be with you, but if I don’t love you, then even if you become successful in the future, I still won’t be with you.”

Peter was visibly disappointed. He then smiled and said, “Is that so? See, I knew I wasn’t wrong about you. There’s no way the person I like could be someone so materialistic.”
“Are you still quitting then?” Serenity did not want him to lose a stable job because of her,
“I’ve always wanted to try my luck outside,” Peter said seriously without any negative emotions. “Regardless of whether I succeed, at least I won’t have any regrets.
Seeing Peter’s determination, Serenity knew further persuasion was futile, so she said, “In that case… I wish you back.”
“Thank you!” he said.
Before Serenity left, Peter said, “Serenity, you’re a good woman. I’m not lucky enough to make you fall for me, but you don’t have to feel guilty. My resignation has nothing to do with you. I’m doing it so that I can give my future significant other a better life.”
After leaving Peter’s department, Serenity’s heart felt heavy. She was frustrated.
Two days later, Peter quit from the Sanitation Office. The Sanitation Office organized a farewell party for Peter at a restaurant
Serenity attended the farewell party. After the meal, Peter invited everyone to karaoke.
After that, when it was time to go home, Peter told Serenity, “Serenity, will you let me send you home one last time today? After today, I won’t have the chance to do so anymore.”
This time, Serenity did not refuse.
Peter thus drove Serenity home. When they arrived at the entrance to Serenity’s neighborhood, Serenity got out and said to Peter, “Goodbye.”
Peter hesitated for a moment before saying, “Goodbye.”
It was a simple word, but it carried a lot of emotions.
