Chapter 431
Serenity held her breath when she saw his expression.
Wait a minute… Was he… Angry?
“You said you wanted to support yourself, that you’d rather continue delivering food for that restaurant than relying on me. I’ll accept that.” Jackson took a deep breath before he continued, “However, isn’t it quite normal for a man to buy little gifts for his girlfriend? Are you treating me as a boyfriend at all?”
Serenity hit her lip nervously. At that moment, she was lost for words.
“I understand that you don’t wish to rely on me, but that doesn’t mean you have to reject everything I give you,” said Jackson.
He wanted her to live a good life and to stop being such a penny-pincher. Of course, he understood that she had developed this personality due to her experience. He knew that it would take time for her to change

But… the frustration that he so desperately tried to suppress still made its way out.
However, the frustration was directed more at himself than her.
If only he had intervened back then. He thought that if he had defended her, Serenity wouldn’t have turned out like this today.
Her life had been shattered by his hands. She used to be a lawyer with a bright future, but he had turned her into a person
with
a criminal record, which made it impossible to find a job. It was he who had taught her what it meant to live in poverty, where every dollar counted.
Serenity took in a deep breath and said to Jackson, “Alright, I understand. Could you please get me a scrunchie?”
Now that she thought about it, she realized how she had drawn a firm boundary between them. She had initially done this to avoid repeating her past mistake. She didn’t want to be a parasite, but someone who was self-sufficient,
But now, their positions had changed. She was now his girlfriend, and there was no longer the need to maintain such firm boundaries. In fact, it would only be detrimental to their relationship going forward as she would come across as overly
distant.
Jackson brought her to the nearby stalls, but none of the accessories on sale were to his liking. In the end, they went over to the shopping mall next to the market where there was a special kiosk selling hair accessories.
Serenity looked around and found that even the most basic black scrunchie cost 15 dollars each. Although its quality was good, it was too pricey for a simple scrunchie.
