On the day of Emily’s funeral, Serenity dressed herself in black and joined the funeral procession. Her eyes were slightly red. Clearly, she had cried again. Dressed in a black suit, Jackson stood by Serenity’s side and accompanied her to the funeral home.
The Walker family had reserved a hall in the funeral home to accommodate the memorial service. During the service, Serenity stood and listened quietly. Listening to Uncle Francis’ speech about Granny’s life, tears fell from her eyes again.

When Uncle Francis’ speech was over, the crowd began to form a line to get a last look at Emily and say their final goodbye.
When it was Serenity’s turn, a man rushed forward and stopped her. He pointed at Serenity and yelled, “You have no right to step forward! You should stay in the corner for being an ex-convict! You’re a shame to your grandmother! Haven’t you brought enough disgrace to your family? Do you want everyone to know that Emily’s granddaughter was in prison?!
