The corner of Raymond's eye lifted almost imperceptibly. He withdrew his gaze as if nothing had happened and accepted the document.

Just as he lowered his pen to sign, a clear, familiar male voice sounded nearby. "Tiff, sorry to drag you along again to accompany my mom for her follow-up."

Raymond did not need to look up to know it was Glen.

For some reason, his pen slipped, and a long streak of ink cut across the signature line.

The intern, unaware of the shift in the air, sensed only that Raymond's presence had turned colder, the easy composure he usually carried gone.

"Dr. Hutton, is there something wrong with the document?"

"Sorry. No." His expression remained unchanged. He set the pen down again, signed swiftly, handed the file back, and slipped his hands into his pockets as he walked toward his office.
