Chapter 20: Still in the Mood to Act Up

The man drying her hair paused.

A flash of panic crossed his eyes, but he quickly composed himself. "Chloe," he said, "don’t overthink things. I got a vasectomy because I don’t want you to suffer. I saw the pain Sunny Reed went through when she gave birth, and I don’t want you to experience that."

Chloe Reed closed her eyes.

If he had told her this a month ago, she might have believed him.

But she had learned too much in the meantime.

He had spent Sunny Reed’s entire pregnancy with her, cared for Noah Grant, and his heart was entirely with that mother and son.

Now, to learn he’d had a vasectomy.

She could only conclude that he had done it for them.

Not for her.

The hair dryer whirred to life, and Chloe’s voice cut through the noise. "Divorce."

Walker Grant’s hands didn’t stop. His long, slender fingers threaded through her hair, drying her long locks bit by bit.

Her hands clenched into tight fists.

’How could he still put on this act of a gentle, doting husband after everything he’d done to hurt her?’

’Isn’t he exhausted?’

But she was.
