Chapter 8 The Young Man In The Wheelchair

from the balcony as the paramedics covered his lifeless body with a white blanket and carried it into the ambulance. Apparently, he had been dead for two days before they discovered his body in the bathroom. As Eileen glanced at the cake on the table and stared at the wall, a thought suddenly formed inside her head. She then cut a huge slice of the cake, placed it carefully inside a box, and tied a ribbon on it. “I’ll be right back, Sharon. Help me put the cake in the refrigerator.” Sharon could only shake her head helplessly in response as Eileen had run off before she could ask where she was going. Eileen ran into her bedroom, grabbed a pen and a piece of paper, and retrieved her drone from storage. She had bought that drone when she was fifteen, only to leave it aside after playing with it for a few days. This time, however, she was able to put it to good use. After writing a note and attaching it to the ribbon, she made her way into the courtyard with the cake and drone in hand. Jasper paused, eyeing the object warily. Huh? That looks like a drone… It even has a box attached to it… After a brief inspection to ensure its harmlessness, he picked up the box. Within, he found a note attached that read: My name is Eileen Swan. I’m your neighbor, and it’s my birthday today. I baked this cake myself. Please have some! I’ll come visit you every day from now on, okay? Eileen Swan? She’s coming to visit me every day? Jasper eagerly tore open the box and devoured the cake. The sweetness on his tongue and the delightful aroma enveloping him brought a warm sensation to his heart. In that moment, the urge to end his own life faded away. After staring at the broken window for quite some time, Eileen directed her drone back to her. A few minutes later, the drone landed next to her feet, and a smile appeared on Eileen’s face as she saw that he
