"How could I dare?" Scarlett huffed indignantly. "Every time I mention it, she picks a fight with me!"

She sniffed, her tone thick with frustration. "In the end, I'm always the bad guy. But she's my only daughter-how could I possibly want to hurt her? Cedric let out a heavy sigh, rubbing the back of his neck in frustration. Scarlett had always held a grudge against Briony, and Cedric wouldn't dare say any of this in front of her.
