When Sabrina walked out of the restaurant, she tidied up her coat and went down the stairs. She stared ahead blankly, motionless.

The driver stopped the car on the side of the road. After a few seconds of just watching Sabrina standing so still, the driver concluded that she didn’t see the car and flashed the taillights.

When Sabrina still didn’t move, the driver lowered the window and shouted, “Miss Chavez, why don’t you get in the car?”

Sabrina blinked and regained awareness of her surroundings. She looked toward the car and slowly walked over. Once she was in the car, she told the driver in a hoarse voice, “Drive me to… The bank of the river.”

The driver was stunned. He glanced at Sabrina in the rearview mirror and saw that her eyes were red. His lips thinned and he said, “Miss Chavez, it’s cold by the river now. Is there anything bothering you?”

When Sabrina didn’t respond, he had no choice but to start the car and drive toward the river bank.
