“Alex Jefferson, effective immediately, you are no longer employed here. Take off your uniform and scram!”

Alex stepped into the security office and immediately noticed James Langdon, the manager, lounging in his chair. James was sitting behind the desk, puffing on his cigarette as he directed a contemptuous glance in Alex’s direction.

Stunned, Alex frowned and asked, “You’re firing me? On what basis?”

“On what basis?” James burst out laughing. “Don’t you know that your wife’s infidelity is the talk of the town? Four Seas Corporation is the top company in Nebula City. We value our reputation more than anything. Your private affairs have seriously damaged the reputation of our company!”

Alex was taken completely off guard. His face contorted into a scowl as he retorted, “She cheated on me? No way! James, don’t even suggest such a thing! If you have an issue with me, then just get straight to the point. Why do you have to be so despicable as to accuse my wife of something she didn’t do?”

James flashed a smug grin. “Issue with you? Who are you for me to waste my time spreading rumors about your wife?”

Alex clenched his fists as he snarled, “A few days ago, I came to your office to request a day off so that I could attend the parent-teacher meeting at my son’s kindergarten. That’s why you want to get rid of me.”
