Super Mommy and Her Triplets
Chapter 120
Sensing her gaze, Justin looked up, and their eyes met.
Neither of them spoke.
Instead, Veronique smiled and turned toward Artemis, saying, “Justin is the only person I know in the medical field.”
Artemis arched his brows and smiled back faintly. His gaze seemed to say that he had something on his mind, but he did not express it. “I see. Whatever it is, I'm entrusting him to you,” he finally uttered.
“I'll try my best,” Veronique promised, nodding.
With that said, she paced over to the table and smiled at Justin. “It's been a while,” she greeted casually.
Justin spared her a glance as he took out a stack of records from a folder. “These are the patient's recent medical records. Have a scan. Check them out and let me know if you have any questions.”
Veronique took the documents from him but did not flip through them immediately. A brief silence ensued before she spoke. “I heard you and your fiancée are getting married. I hope I'm invited to the wedding.”
Justin stitched his brows, and his gaze froze. “The Revelle family will be invited to the wedding. Let's stick to business, shall we? We'll talk about this later.”
Veronique forced a rigid smile and looked down at the report in her hand.
Her face fell at first glance.
“A central nervous system tumor? Grandpa didn't tell me about this before I came back,” she exclaimed.
Is this a ruse? Gosh. I can't believe that old man worked with them to trick me into coming back. He'll get it from me when I go home.
“Is it going to be difficult?” Artemis asked on the other side.
“Yes. Very,” Veronique replied, scanning through the documents.
Her face gloomed the more she read.
“So, the tumor cells worsened, turned malignant, and metastasized...”
Veronique closed her eyes briefly and turned toward Artemis and the rest, shaking her head. “There would still have been a thirty-percent success rate if the cancer in his hindbrain had not worsened, but from what I see in the reports, the cells have already spread to other cranial nerves, so there's no way I can perform this surgery... I'm sorry.”
Everyone paled when they heard that.
Agitated, Felicity went over and grabbed Veronique's arms. “Vero, you saved the king of Eskaria three years ago. You must be able to save my father too! Please. You're the only surgeon in the world that would do this craniotomy procedure. We can only watch him die if you don't operate on him.”
“I wasn't the one who did the surgery three years ago. Besides, the king's condition is different from Old Mr. Chivers'. His cancer had not worsened, and the cells had not spread at the time of operation. Even for a case like that, the success rate was only twenty percent. Moreover, the patient was only forty-over years old at that time. Old Mr. Chivers is already eighty. We don't even know if his body can take it,” Veronique explained with a sigh.
Felicity wanted to persuade her, but Artemis stopped her.
“What is the survival rate if you're the one doing the operation?” he asked with a frown.
The woman pondered for a bit before answering, “Not even ten percent. I wasn't even confident enough to perform a twenty-percent survival rate surgery for the Eskarian king—let alone Old Mr. Chivers' operation. His condition is worse. I really can't take it up.”
Here, she paused shortly and thought. “I'll run some tests on Old Mr. Chivers again and discuss the results with my grandpa. We'll see if we can develop a treatment plan for him. Give me three days. If you guys don't hear back from me after that, it means all of you have to look for someone else.”
Felicity shook her head in denial, with despair written all over her face. She staggered backward until Simon caught her.
“Please do everything you can to save him, but, of course, we understand if you don't want to take the risk,” Artemis said after a pause as if he had made up his mind about something.
Then, he turned to Edmund and continued, “Bring her to Granddad's ward to do another check.”
“Sure.”
Once the two had left, Felicity glowered at Artemis, seething, “Why did you forbid me from asking about Anonymous? Veronique is the only one who knows where she is. Anonymous is our only hope now if Veronique can't save your granddad!”
Artemis sighed in resignation. “Mother, she's not obliged in any way to tell us about anything about Anonymous. She'll turn you down immediately if you ask her about it. This will only make it more difficult for us to request anything from Veronique in the future.”
Felicity was stumped for words.
He's right, but this is not the time to look at things so rationally. My father is on the sickbed now. His condition is deteriorating, and the cancer cells are spreading fast.
“Do you have other plans, then?” Felicity asked. “Are you just waiting for her to tell us on her own accord where Anonymous is?”
Artemis nodded lightly. “That's exactly what I'm thinking. It'll be best if she can offer us that information voluntarily. Even if she doesn't want to, I hope she will still come around because she's a doctor. She won't just sit idly by as the patient dies.”
Hopefully this will prick her conscience.
Artemis was an experienced businessman. He knew just how to get the things he wanted—both in business and in life.
