Scarlett stood up and glared daggers at Veronique. “What? Don't push your luck, you b*tch! I've already agreed to cancel my marriage with Justin, so what more do you want from us? What does that illegitimate child of yours have to do with me? Why should I even agree to save him?”

“Yeah? And what does your brother have to do with me? Why should I save him, huh?” Veronique snapped back at her with a sneer.

“You...” Scarlett jabbed a finger at Veronique, but the words were stuck in her throat.

Veronique ignored her and turned to look at Tamara as she continued, “There, I've stated my request. It's up to you two whether to fulfill it or not. It's true that the Fletcher family is incredibly powerful, but you can't force me to perform this surgery. You wouldn't want to leave the fate of your son in the hands of a reluctant surgeon, would you?”

Tamara fell silent as she tried to process the situation.

It's obvious that Veronique came here with this intention in mind. However, I can't possibly reject her request when my son's life is on the line!

Scarlett's heart skipped a beat when she noticed Tamara starting to waver. “My body isn't fit enough for a bone marrow donation, Mom! It could result in my death! You can't sacrifice my life to save Raiden's!” she protested anxiously.

“Now you're just exaggerating, Ms. Fletcher. We'll just be taking a little bit of your bone marrow. It won't even affect your health in the slightest, let alone put your life in danger!” Veronique said before Tamara could even respond.

“Shut up, you!” Scarlett yelled at her before clinging to Tamara's arm as she sobbed. “You mustn't be so selfish, Mom! You can't sacrifice your daughter just to save your son!”

Tamara frowned at her as she asked in displeasure, “So what? You want to just sit by and watch your brother die?”

Scarlett went pale instantly. “No, I didn't mean it like that! I—”

Tamara interrupted her, “Enough! I don't want to hear another word from you! Since a bone marrow donation isn't going to endanger your life, then you should sign the agreement and save your brother's life!”

Scarlett's legs gave out beneath her, and she slumped weakly against the couch.

“N-No! I won't agree to this! No one has the right to take my bone marrow without my consent!”

“Oh well. If Ms. Fletcher won't agree to my request, then I won't force her to. You two can just sit by and watch as Mr. Raiden dies of blood loss,” Veronique said with a shrug before she once more headed for the door.

“Wait!” Tamara called out to her and turned toward Scarlett. Gritting her teeth, she declared, “If you won't save your brother, then the Fletcher family will cut ties with you. If your brother dies, then you will no longer be a member of this household!”

Scarlett glared at Tamara in disbelief. “Mom, are you seriously going to kick me out of the family?”

“If you don't even care about your own family member's life, then why should I keep you around?” Tamara snapped back at her.

Feeling helpless and defeated, Scarlett slumped weakly against the couch.

Mom has always stayed true to her word, so there's no point in arguing any further. If Raiden dies because of my selfishness, everyone in the Fletcher family will never forgive me.

“All right... I agree to donate my bone marrow. There. Can you go operate on my brother now?” she said after a long pause.

Veronique pulled out two copies of the document from her handbag. “I'm afraid a verbal promise isn't going to suffice. Sign this agreement, and I'll perform the surgery.”

“You...”

“I suggest you hurry it up, Ms. Fletcher. It has already been two hours since your brother got shot. As fit and strong as he may be, he's probably at his limits by now.”

Scarlett was gnashing her teeth in anger and frustration, but she had no choice in that situation.

Her eyes were filled with hatred as she took the documents over and signed them.

Ugh! I hate this! I hate this so much! I hate Veronique and her son to the bone, and yet, I have to sacrifice myself to save that boy.
