Zeke quickly turned toward her and shot her an icy look. “Don't spout nonsense.”

Zoey scoffed and raised her voice as she protested, “Zeke has been quite close with Juliana recently. I bet he's falling for her.”

Steven's expression darkened the moment he heard those words. “Isn't she from the Hoffman family in Adrune? Zeke, how did you end up being around a girl from that family? Don't you know that the Hoffman family doesn't allow one of their own to marry a foreigner? You're looking for trouble.”

In response, Zeke sighed softly after glancing at Zoey for a moment. In a flat tone, he said, “That girl likes me, but I've already rejected her countless times.”

The tenseness in Steven's expression eased up right away, and he reprimanded, “You must be careful. Don't fool around with someone you can't afford to mess with.”

“All right,” Zeke replied.

Steven mulled over it for a while and added, “Your marriage with Shirley is settled, then. We'll go over to the Gourd residence in Lostaria to propose the marriage.”

Zeke rubbed his temples and responded helplessly, “I'm really not planning on getting married anytime soon, Dad. If you're so free, why don't you worry about Zoey's future instead? After all, she's a girl and already twenty-six. It's about time she marries and has a family of her own.”

“Zeke!” Zoey stomped her feet and grumbled, “Why must you drag me into this?”

“You started it first.”

“You—”

“That's enough.” Waverly stood up from the couch and said, “Your father has just returned. Let him go to his room to rest. We'll talk about your futures in a couple of days' time.”

After that, she turned to Steven. “Let's head upstairs. I need to talk to you about Lionel.”

Steven hummed in response. He pondered for a moment before saying to Zoey, “Zozo, I don't want you to ruin someone else's relationship, and I definitely won't allow you to do such a nasty thing. I don't mind having a mediocre daughter, but I won't accept an immoral one. Do you understand?”

“U-Understood.” While watching Steven leave, Zoey clenched her fists. I can't hide my identity forever. One day, my secret will be exposed. If I don't get rid of Bailey before that, she's going to end up taking everything that's mine. No. I can't let that happen. It's safest if she's dead. She must die!

At the military general hospital, Raiden finally regained consciousness six hours later.

Bailey ran a few tests on him and heaved a sigh of relief after making sure that he was out of the woods. I can't afford to mess this up. If something bad had happened to this man, I would have to live with immense guilt for the rest of my life.

Raiden stayed in bed for a while before struggling to sit up.

Bailey was shocked when she saw that. She quickly went up to him and grabbed his arm to push him back down.

“Don't move. Your heart was damaged, and I had to stitch it up. You shouldn't even move your body, let alone sit up.”

“Thirsty...” Raiden mumbled.

Hearing that, Bailey hurriedly grabbed a glass of water nearby and used a spoon to feed him. “Open your mouth.”

Raiden wasn't used to such treatment, and he looked embarrassed. How could I let her see me in such a pathetic state?

Bailey knew what was on his mind, so she glared at him and said, “If you don't drink up, I'll stab myself in the heart to repay you.”
