Tarragon...

Bailey scoffed.

Despite how powerful it is, it doesn't scare me at all.

Nonetheless, Bailey—not wanting Shannon to worry—nodded in agreement. “Fine. I won't do anything reckless before running it by you. Now, get a grip on yourself. I'm taking you racing.”

Shannon was taken by surprise. “Are you participating in today's race too? But your name isn't on the roster.”

A sly glint flashed across Bailey's eyes. “It's true that I'm not on it, but Dexter is.”

Shannon understood immediately. “So you're the one who's racing in his place. In that case, today's race will be an exciting one. I'm really looking forward to it now.”

“Let's go.”

Just as Bailey pulled her up from the couch to head out, Shannon hesitated. “By the way, Bay, there's something about my brother and Wendy that I have to tell you. After all, your best friend, Victoria, is involved with Wendy's husband.”

Bailey stopped abruptly in her tracks. “Your brother? How is he connected to Wendy?”

“Back when I was imprisoned for stealing Tarragon's secrets, my brother agreed to take on a mission issued by the elders in an effort to save me. It involved getting close to the eldest daughter of the Hoffman family to obtain the family's secrets. When my brother succeeded in doing so, the Hoffman family naturally lost the authority to control Zaewora.”

Given how smart Bailey was, she instantly knew what Shannon was trying to convey.

“Are you saying that your brother manipulated Wendy into falling for him to obtain the Hoffman family's secrets? In that case... Wendy's son, Sebastian, is your brother's?”

Shannon shook her head. “I'm not sure about that. When he returned after completing his mission, my brother lost his memory and couldn't remember a thing. As for me, my arm was broken as punishment before he got back. I was disheartened, so I ended up fleeing Tarragon. I don't know if Wendy's son is my brother's, but I'm certain that he has come to Hallsbay for a reason.”

Bailey's face turned sullen.

If Sebastian really is Holden's son, he'll be the target of the Hoffman family's frustration after the massive loss Holden has caused them. Can Julie really bring him out safely after going to see Mr. Raymond and the others alone?

“Got it. Thank you for telling me this. Now, let's head to the venue.”

Inside another lounge, Zoey, leaning against the couch, looked up at the bodyguard opposite her and asked, “Is everything in order?”

“The arrangements have been made, Ms. Zoey. Don't worry. My friend has worked at the racing association for a long time and knows how to tamper with cars without anyone noticing. Soon, it will be Bailey's funeral.”

Zoey tightened her grip on the wine glass in her hand.

Excellent! I came here today just to see Bailey die.

“All right. Come back here for your reward once the deed is done.”

“Yes, Ms. Zoey.”

When Bailey and Shannon arrived at the venue, they ran into Edmund.

Thinking that she had made a mistake, Bailey had to look twice before she was sure it was him.

“Why are you here? I remember that you never liked crowded places.”

The faint smile on Edmund's face was as gentle as before. However, he had lost a lot of weight since she had last seen him.

He must have gone through a hard time. I wonder if time has managed to heal his wounds.

“The daughter of my father's friend from overseas came to Hallsbay to watch the race. She insisted on getting Adhira's autograph and threw a tantrum at home when she learned that he wasn't on the roster today. After my mom pacified her, she insisted on me accompanying her here.”

Bailey cocked a brow.
