Zoey clenched her fists.

Though she knew this could be the possible outcome, she was still stunned when the woman admitted it in person. Sophia. Sophia Carr. Is she really that Mrs. Jefferson who died in the fire two decades ago?

Twenty years ago, she perished in a fire, and her body was not found. Her death had rocked the elite class in Hallsbay.

Everyone believed she was burned alive in the incident as there was no way for her to cheat death. But how come she's still alive? And how come there's no sign of wounds on her body?

Nevertheless, there were still some minor changes to her appearance.

Compared to her appearance twenty years ago, she looked slightly different at present.

Zoey deduced that the woman must have undergone several plastic surgeries to restore her looks.

“D-Didn't you die in the fire? H-How come you're still alive?” Zoey stuttered.

Sofie responded with a sigh, “Did you just curse me? I'm your mother. How could you? Do you wish I'm dead? You would have lost a strong ally had I been dead.”

Those words sent a shiver down Zoey's spine, but her eyes lit up with joy as if something flashed across her mind. She's right. She's the owner of an international cosmetics company. With her help, I can get rid of Bailey more easily.

“D-Does that mean you're willing to help me?” Zoey asked.

A corner of Sofie's lips quirked up. She gently stroked Zoey's face and sighed. “I haven't met you for twenty years, and you've grown into a beauty. It looks like I made the right choice. Only the Shurmers could raise you to become an elegant woman. Had you been raised in the Jefferson family, you would have ended up being a small fry among the other socialites. In other words, you wouldn't have made it to the list of the Ten Acclaimed Socialites.”

Tears started welling up in Zoey's eyes when she heard “Ten Acclaimed Socialites.”

She could not help putting on a piteous pretense. “That b*tch Bailey tricked me and put me behind bars for half a month. As a result, the International Socialite Club removed me from the ranking.”

The woman standing before her was her biological mother. Had she been an ordinary woman, Zoey would have given her the cold shoulder and ordered someone to kick her out of Hallsbay.

Kinship meant nothing to Zoey. A mother who could not provide her with all the assistance she needed would be just another useless person.

Fortunately, Sofie managed to make a name for herself and become a renowned entrepreneur in the international arena.

Given Sofie's power and prestige, Zoey knew she could be of great help to her. I'm even willing to lick her boots if necessary.

Sofie's heart instantly softened when she heard Zoey's soft voice.

After all, Zoey was her biological daughter. She had been away for years, and she felt a pang of guilt for not fulfilling her responsibility as a mother.

“Who cares about the Ten Acclaimed Socialites ranking? I'll tell the world you're my goddaughter. I bet the International Socialite Club will beg you to return. I understand you're in a difficult situation, and I'm aware Bailey had driven you to the edge, but look, I came all the way here to back you up. With me behind your back and your position as the daughter of the Shurmer family, I'm sure you'll become the new mistress of the Luther family.”

Zoey was overjoyed. “You came back for me? You mean you'll help me deal with Bailey?”

Sofie nodded with a grin. “Yup. That's right. I'll remove all the stumbling blocks that get in your way and help you become Mrs. Luther.”

Zoey's body began to tremble in excitement.

One thing she learned from the harsh reality was she must cling to her biological mother if she wanted to lead a better life. I believe God has sent her over to help me overcome this crisis.
