Lionel helped Victoria to the couch before he grabbed the file and went over to Victor.

“Victor, all the shares and assets of the Saunders family are yours now. Victoria won't get anything, so you are now the sole inheritor. Victor, I hope you can manage the business effectively. After all, it's a legacy that has been built and sustained for generations within your family,” he said solemnly.

Victor snatched the file from him and mocked, “I don't need your reminder. Why would I trust you when you said Victoria didn't take anything? I don't know how many assets the Saunders family has. What if she takes a slice for herself?”

Victoria leaped up from the couch and hurried over to Victor. She protested in agony, “Victor, how could you say that? it is undeniable that Lionel has worked hard to operate our family business and successfully increased its profit by a few percent. As a result, the business is now worth more than when Dad entrusted it to him. If you need proof, you can check the records at the notary office.”

Victor disregarded Victoria's words and cast his gaze upon the impressive figures in the document. A satisfied expression could be seen on his face.

“I don't mind you taking a slice. You can treat it as dowry from me,” he joked.

“You!” Victoria was about to lash out at him, but Lionel stopped her from doing so.

“Now that the assets and shares have all been transferred to you, shouldn't you fulfill your filial duties by heading to the funeral home?”

Victor flashed a shameless smile. “I'm pleased with how you fulfilled my first condition. Now time to talk about my second condition. When will you complete the procedures so I can be released from jail?”

“Victor, don't push your luck!” Victoria snarled angrily.

He is using Dad's funeral to threaten Lionel and me. Dad must be heartbroken to see his actions.

Victor merely snorted icily. “If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have ended up in jail. I'm kind enough not to ask him to grovel at my feet. I'm his brother-in-law, so he'll have to do everything I say.”

“Hey—”

“All right, Vicky. That's enough,” Lionel interjected.

He then told Victor, “Attend the funeral first. I'll make the arrangements for everything. Don't worry, for I'm a man of integrity. I've given you my word that I'll arrange for you to be released, and I won't go back on my word.”

Victor sneered and left the study with the property transfer agreement.

Victoria watched as he marched away without a backward glance while tears blurred her vision. She felt her legs give out beneath her as she crumpled to the ground.

Lionel hurriedly reached out to support her and pulled her into his arms.

“Be careful. Don't fall and hurt yourself,” he reminded her.

Victoria bawled in the man's arms. “He was in jail for a few months, but instead of repenting, he grew even more hostile. If he gains control of the Saunders family business, he'll ruin everything in less than six months.”

Lionel put on a bitter smile and shook his head. “Let's not worry about the future and concentrate on completing your father's funeral. Victor is the rightful heir to the Saunders family, so it is only right for him to inherit the assets. It's up to him how he chooses to handle the assets he inherits.”

At the end of the hallway of a café, two men stood side by side on the balcony.

Artemis glanced at the bustling street not far away and let out a sigh. “I can't believe you're now my brother-in-law. Life can sometimes be surreal, huh?”
