The atmosphere in the study tensed up following the loud shattering noise of the cup smashing to smithereens.

Victor was leaning against the cupboard as he uttered nonchalantly, “What's the matter? Didn't you two agree to the conditions? Are you going against your word? It's fine even if you do. There are only two years left, anyway. At most, I'll just keep waiting inside. As for today's funeral, I won't be making an appearance. You two can handle it.”

Victoria, trembling with fury, pointed at him. “H-How can you do this, Victor? How dare you break your promise after the Saunders family's shares and assets were transferred to you?”

In response, he sneered, “Those belong to me in the first place. I simply regained what was always mine. If you two don't settle my prison issue today, I won't attend the funeral.” Do they think I'm stupid? I'll still be brought back to prison after the funeral's over. What's the point of inheriting the assets, then? Since I can't set myself free, they'll have to do it for me.

He thought he should clarify his condition just in case they didn't get the full picture. If they wanted him to attend the burial, they would have to settle the issue of releasing him from prison.

By that point, Victoria's face was covered in tears. She was utterly disappointed in her brother. “I've been taking care of Dad's funeral for the past few days, which was why I didn't have time to pull some strings and get you out of jail. Victor, I promise you with my life that after you attend the funeral, I will find a way to set you free. What do you think?”

“I think I disagree. If I don't get what I want today, I won't make an appearance at the funeral. How about you let the old fart stay in the house for a couple more days? Once you've taken care of my request, I'll happily do what you want.”

Victoria was once again engulfed in rage after she heard what Victor said, even though she had just calmed herself down. What does he think Dad's funeral is? A joke? Is he not afraid of the heavens punishing him for being such an unfilial son?

“Victor, you—” Originally, she wanted to say, “If you push your luck again, I'll just ignore your matter entirely and ask the prison guard to throw you back into prison right away. I'll handle Dad's funeral myself.”

However, Lionel stopped her before she could complete her sentence. He pulled her into his embrace and said, “I'm already taking care of it. Give me three more days, and I'll make sure you won't step foot into prison again.”

Victor shrugged nonchalantly. “Fine. The old fart's funeral will also be delayed by three days, then.”

“You—”

“Aren't you afraid of getting punished by the heavens for threatening your sister and her husband with your father's funeral? Even if the heavens ignore you, aren't you scared your father will turn into a vengeful ghost and haunt you for being such a heartless b*stard?” Bailey's voice rang out in the air as she stepped into the room.

Swiftly, Victor's expression darkened as he spat, “This is our family business. It has nothing to do with an outsider like you. Get the h*ll out of here.”

She clicked her tongue and looked around before raising her voice. “I know your soul hasn't returned to the cycle of reincarnation yet, Mr. Saunders. Don't you think it's time to show yourself and punish your unfilial son?”

Victor jolted in fright and surveyed his surroundings, panicking. ”Q-Quit saying nonsense like that! I-I don't believe in ghosts or supernatural stuff! Stop acting as though his ghost is here!”

“You don't believe it?” Raising her eyebrows, she chuckled. “Then why are you trembling? You should know I'm Grandmaster Gadzinski's disciple. Surely you've heard of him before. If you do, you would know it's a piece of cake for him to conjure the spirit of a dead person. As his disciple, I just so happened to have learned that skill. How about I ask your father to meet with you right now so the two of you can have a chat?”

Victor was so terrified that his legs turned to jelly, and he had to hold onto the cupboard to stabilize himself. “Y-You're just spouting nonsense! I don't believe you can summon his spirit in broad daylight!”
