A glint of hope flashed across Bailey's eyes. Oh, is that so?

Seeing that she was gradually calming down, Edmund breathed a sigh of relief. “So you ought to cooperate with him now and see if you can lure out the person who's been secretly plotting against you this whole time.”

“I think Edmund's right,” Zeke chimed in. “Bay, you can't lose your head over this matter.”

Bailey pursed her lips and nodded. “All right. I shall wait and see if that troublemaker will make a move. Thanks, guys. If you hadn't helped talk sense into me, I'd have made some rather impulsive decisions.”

At the very least, she knew she could take a breather since the spies in Tarragon headquarters had informed them that Artemis was no longer in danger.

So what if he had really lost his memories? As long as he was safe, Bailey could always help him recover his memories.

The most important thing right now was to find out who had been scheming behind her back. After all, the only way to bring peace and calm into their lives was to catch the culprit.

Besides, Artemis' memory loss might not necessarily be a bad thing. As far as Dominic and the others were concerned, they'd think they had Artemis under control and spare him for the time being.

If Artemis hadn't lost his memories, there was no doubt he'd be facing countless dangers.

As a wise man once said, it is easy to dodge an open attack but difficult to defend against a concealed one. With Artemis' memories gone, no one had to be afraid of or guard against him any longer. Naturally, that meant he was safe.

Meanwhile, at the Shurmer residence, two maids were whispering among themselves in the garden.

“Word has it that Sammy kept pestering Ms. Gourd because Mr. Zeke instructed her to.”

“Oh, dear. Is that true? Ms. Gourd is carrying Mr. Zeke's baby, for goodness' sake. How could he tell Sammy to create an accident to cause a miscarriage?”

“I guess Mr. Zeke just can't stand the sight of her, so he doesn't care about the baby either. Why else would he want to get rid of it?”

“Oh, how tragic and pitiful. Since Ms. Gourd confirmed her pregnancy, Mr. Zeke hadn't been home once to see her. He didn't even show up when she almost miscarried previously. I think you're right. Not only does Mr. Zeke not like her, but he also doesn't want a baby with her.”

“Exactly. Most people will leap for joy when they hear they're becoming a father and wish they could spend every moment with their wives. Mr. Zeke, however, doesn't even want to come home these days. There are also rumors that he's moving out soon.”

“Gosh! I feel so sad for Ms. Gourd. She hasn't officially married Mr. Zeke and already has to spend her time here alone.”

“Indeed... What a pity that fall didn't cause her to have a miscarriage.”

“Fret not. Now that we know Mr. Zeke wants to get rid of the child, I'm sure he'll have other tricks up his sleeve. I daresay he'd do anything to succeed.”

“Oh, I agree.”

The maids happened to be standing directly under Shirley's bedroom, but even though they had lowered their voices, the latter could still hear them clearly from the bathroom.

Shirley sat on the toilet, gripping a wad of tissue as she felt an intense mix of anger, grief, and resentment bubbling to the surface.

She wasn't sure if she had been overly agitated and pulled something in her abdomen, but it wasn't long before a stabbing pain spread throughout her body.

After struggling to get up from the toilet, Shirley clutched her stomach and walked out of the bathroom.

Alas, just as she was about to shout for the maids outside her room, another jolt of excruciating pain caused her to double over and crumple to the floor.

Thankfully, the loud thud caught the attention of the maids.

When two maids finally burst the door open and saw Shirley curled up on the floor, their faces instantly darkened.

“Inform Mrs. Shurmer at once and call for the doctor!”

“Okay, okay.”

Within seconds, the entire Shurmer residence descended into panic.

At the back entrance of the mansion, the two maids who had been gossiping in the garden quietly slipped away.

“Is everything done?” Zoey asked.

As it turned out, she had hired the two women to pose as maids and hold the conversation outside Shirley's bedroom window.

One of the women hastily nodded. “Don't worry, Ms. Shurmer. We did everything as you said, and I'm sure our target heard every word of our exchange. When we came out earlier, there was chaos in the entire mansion. Someone was running to get Mrs. Shurmer while others called for the doctor. From the looks of it, something must've happened to the pregnant lady because she got too emotional.”

“Good. You guys have done well. Mission accomplished,” Zoey said smilingly before fishing out a card from her pocket. “There's a stored value of six hundred thousand in this card, and the password is six sixes... Remember to keep this a secret. If the two of you divulge any information, I'll end your lives immediately. Understood?”

The two women were street thugs who knew what it took to survive, so naturally, they wouldn't dare spill the beans.

“Yes, yes. We'll keep it a secret. We promise.”

“That's right!”
