Philip sneered inwardly.

Disaster will only befall the family if the baby in her belly lives. Now that the baby is gone, I don't think a calm and composed person like Zeke would take drastic measures to deal with a mere unformed ball of flesh in the belly of an insignificant woman, resulting in a lose-lose situation for both parties. His threat should at least make sense if he wants to scare me. How would I take him seriously when his threats are empty? Does he really think his daughter is so precious that Zeke would go to such lengths for her? What a joke.

“Don't worry, Mr. Raymond. I won't risk my son's right of inheritance. Didn't this traitor say that he was the one who poisoned Julie for revenge? It has nothing to do with us.”

Raymond's expression grew gloomier.

He had an acute sixth sense. His intuition told him that if anything happened to Juliana and her baby, Zeke would actually take drastic actions against the Hoffman family and make the Hoffmans' life a living hell.

Philip and Tucker are way too short-sighted. All they see is the benefits they could reap before their eyes and have no idea there are some people that they can't afford to mess with.

“Both of you better pray that the baby will be safe. There might still be a chance for a turnaround if the baby is safe, but if not... you guys shall wait to bear the wrath of Bailey and the Shurmer family.”

Utter silence ensued.

Suddenly, the door to the emergency room opened, and the attending doctor came out.

Raymond hurriedly approached and asked grimly, “How is it? Did you manage to save her?”

Wearing a solemn expression, the doctor answered with a trembling voice, “The poison is very deadly. Although it's not the most poisonous one out there, it's still very toxic. We focused on saving the adult with all kinds of medications. In the end... we couldn't save the baby.”

Raymond's pupils constricted immediately.

Zeke had demanded Raymond to ensure the safety of the baby. The former even warned him that if the heir of the Shurmer family died, a vicious bloodbath would ensue in the Hoffman family.

What he dreaded the most still happened in the end.

“Are you sure there's no saving the baby?”

The doctor nodded solemnly. “She has already miscarried. We can't just put the blood that flowed out of her back in, can we? Furthermore, the fetus is not our utmost concern right now. Ms. Juliana is still in critical condition. If worse comes to worst, she might not make it...”

Without waiting for the doctor to finish, Raymond shot him a cold glare and snapped, “I don't care what method you use, but you must keep her alive and make sure she's all right. Otherwise, none of your lives would be spared. Do you hear me?”

“Yes, of course.” The attending doctor quickly retreated back into the emergency room.

Raymond spun around and landed his gaze on Philip.

In that split second, Raymond caught a glimpse of the sinister smile curving the latter's lips. His heart promptly sank.

I can't believe this idiot is really behind this. Does he know who he's messing with? Zeke is the head of the most prestigious family in the medical fraternity worldwide. Bailey is a highly influential international big shot. Not even the leader of a country can do anything to them if they were to join forces, let alone the Hoffman family.

Raymond had already placated Zeke and was waiting for the right opportunity to erase part of Juliana's memory. They would have nothing to worry about once she forgot about the family's confidential secrets.

By then, she wouldn't pose a threat to the Hoffman family even if she were to go with Zeke.

However, at present, his well-thought-out plan was ruined by the foolish Philip and Tucker.

“Ah, forget it. Looks like the impending disaster is inevitable for the Hoffman family. We deserve to suffer. You're on your own now.” Upon saying that to the father-and-son duo, Raymond turned and walked out.

He wouldn't be able to get in Zeke's way if the latter really wanted revenge.

Since he couldn't seek justice for his guilty daughter as the head of the family, he would let Zeke teach the ignorant father and son a lesson on his behalf.

Philip exchanged glances with his son, and they both saw the glee in each other's eyes.

“Go and spread the news that Juliana has miscarried and announce that you will be in charge of the Hoffman family for now because she has fallen sick due to depression after the miscarriage.”

A joyful expression appeared on Tucker's face. “All right. I'll do it now.”

Very soon, news regarding Juliana's miscarriage spread back to the country.

Bailey smashed several valuable antiques in her study in a fit of anger upon hearing about the news.

“Those old b*stards have crossed the line! How dare they mistreat my disciple! Great! This is just great!”

She swiftly decided to make her way over to the Hoffman residence after venting her anger.
