Edmund did not move a muscle.

Bailey would be left high and dry if he went away right now.

If he stayed, they could look out for each other, and he would at least be able to take one for her if the circumstance called for it.

If Edmund left just like that, there would be no one to provide her with support if the need arose. This would also defeat the purpose of them coming together.

Bailey understood Edmund all too well. With just a glance, she was able to guess his intentions. It looks like he's ready to sacrifice his own life to protect me. Hey, don't you need to get my consent first?

After a moment of silence, Bailey said tentatively, “I risked my life to make it here in order to save Justin and Veronique. If you refuse to bring them to safety, then what we've done would have been for naught. Look, Veronique is down to her last breath. She's really going to die if you refuse to rescue her.”

Grimacing, Edmund pursed his lips but said nothing.

Through gritted teeth, Bailey said, “If Veronique dies here, I probably won't be leaving here either. I would choose to die with her. At least she'll have some company.”

Edmund was intimidated by the expression he saw in Bailey's eyes. He knew the latter would do as she said, so he had to protect Veronique in order to protect Bailey. “I've never been cruel to you throughout the years. I advise you to take good care of your life lest others die for you. If you don't wish to be held responsible for so many lives, stay alive.”

Bailey chuckled lowly and did not reply. Now was not the right time to speak of such grand gestures. Without a doubt, she was trying to provoke Yvette. “Go on. Death is inevitable for everyone.”

Edmund reached out and hugged her. He whispered in her ear, “You said in the car that you would give me a chance in our next life. If I'm more selfish, I will wish for your death so that I can join you. Let's go to the other world and continue this relationship. However, I don't wish for you to die. This world is a wonderful place. You should take your time and enjoy what life has to offer. Promise me you'll stay alive.”

After saying that, he pushed her away roughly and strode toward the pillar where Veronique and Justin were bound.

He undid the ropes that bound Justin. The moment the ropes came undone, Justin slid limply to the ground.

Edmund took a pill and shoved it into the other man's mouth.

With some difficulty, Justin swallowed the pill and whispered hoarsely, “Thank you. Hurry and free Veronique. I don't think she can hang on any longer.”

Edmund was already on the move before the other man reminded him.

Justin struggled to stand up when he saw that Edmund had untied the ropes binding Veronique.

Half carrying Veronique while supporting Justin with his other arm, Edmund headed toward the factory exit.

Yvette's eyes darkened. To Bailey, she said, “They'll die if you try to pull any tricks.”

Bailey shrugged in response. “I know everyone here is on your payroll. I won't try anything before they get to safety.”

Yvette snorted, then gestured at the bodyguards who flanked her. “Tie her up.”

The two bodyguards picked up the ropes and came toward Bailey.

Bailey played along and allowed the two of them to bind her securely. Yvette is right. I can't do anything before Edmund and the others get to safety. I'd be signing their death warrants if I did.

“All right, since I've become your captive, tell me what you intend to do with me. It's quite punishing to stand out here in this cold weather. Why don't we get it over with? Tell me how you wish to proceed, and I'll go along with your whims.”

Yvette came over and kicked Bailey's calf.

Although it was not a light kick, Bailey did not move the slightest.
