Shannon looked out the window and stared at the falling snow. Her lips curled into a sad but beautiful smile.

Forgive? How am I supposed to forgive him after going through all that pain? The heartbreaking pain I've gone through was real, and it will never dissipate no matter how much time has passed.

She had once loved and hated him to the core. Forgiving him now would be no easy task.

Shannon stayed quiet for a moment and slowly closed her eyes. Then, enunciating each word, she said, “I will never forgive you. My arm is crippled, and I've lost my child. You're no saint either, so there's no way you can turn back time. Forgiveness is nothing but a luxury for both of us, so don't be too naïve thinking that we'll have a future together. To some, once they've lost something, it's forever. You'll have to endure it no matter how painful it is. That is what fate bestowed upon you. I've already gone through whatever you're living through right now. That's why God is fair.”

Micah stared at her silently.

She was standing so close to him. Yet, it felt like she was out of his reach.

Does she still refuse to forgive me? Fate has given us so much pain. We should be holding each other and helping one another. We might not ever recover from it by tending to our wounds ourselves. Why should we suffer by living in pride for the rest of our lives?

Micah did not believe she could let him go so quickly when she had loved him so much in the past. He thought that Shannon still loved him but had been hurt so much that she merely closed off her heart, not allowing him to enter.

“Do you have to be so resolute? I—”

Without waiting for him to finish, Shannon waved her hand and interrupted, “If you're only going to say things like this, I advise you to stop. I don't want to listen to it, nor is there a need for me to. Since it has come to this, we can part ways now and never cross paths again. This might be the best option for both of us. I'll head in first if you have nothing else to say. The medical base is the Lewitt family's business now and has nothing to do with you, so you don't have to stay here any longer.”

With that, she turned to leave. However, she had only taken a step when Micah grabbed her arm.

To be more precise, he grabbed her sleeve.

Micah was feeling desperate and had grabbed her lost arm, so there was nothing there besides the sleeve.

Shannon stared coldly at him. Her red lips curled up into a sneer as she said, “Mr. Neyman, are you picking on me for not having an arm and not being able to break free from you? Is that why you're acting so unscrupulous? Don't forget you're the one who cut off my arm. Are you trying to pour salt into my wound and remind me how miserable I was then?”

The color drained out of Micah's face.

He felt as though he had shattered into pieces when he heard her words. He couldn't even retaliate.

His lips trembled as he answered with a choked voice, “I've already caught Yvette and found witnesses and evidence that can prove your innocence. Come with me to Tarragon's headquarters in a few days. I'll clear your name and ensure justice is served for you. I'll make sure you witness the one who set you up get punished. This is what I promised you and what I've been doing all this time.”

Shannon pursed her lips.

Should I agree to return to the headquarters with him? Duh! Even if I don't get revenge for my lost arm, I have to do it for my dead child.

Making Yvette suffer was all she could think of.

The scene of Eugene being sent flying away appeared in her mind, and her eyes soon welled up with tears.

“All right. I'll head back to the headquarters with you. My child died a miserable death. I have to make sure that evil woman is destroyed.”

In the emergency room, Bailey had thought she was strong enough to face Edmund's unsightly condition since she had witnessed countless deaths.

Nonetheless, she was still shocked to see how bad his leg was as she stood before the operating table.

The scene of Eugene dying from the cut she made appeared in her mind, and she felt a sudden urge to quit.

Bailey was traumatized.

Her trauma haunted her, especially after seeing how bad Edmund was. She was worried a life so important to her would be lost because of a mistake she made.

“Don't be afraid. I'll go through this with you.”

A familiar voice sounded near her ear, and her hand holding the scalpel started shaking violently.

Bailey turned her head and was surprised to see Artemis standing before her and staring at her with gentle eyes.

“I—”

“Everything is okay. Don't be afraid. You being unable to save his leg isn't the worst-case scenario. There isn't anyone who can save his leg currently, and you're giving him a chance to live by trying. Just do your best. He'll be able to stand again if you succeed, and you'll have one less thing to feel guilty about in the future. Isn't that right?”
