Bailey glared at him. “Speak any further, and I'll cut your tongue.”

I didn't expect there'd come a day when she's taken down a peg. Zain grinned. “Do you think Cameron kept your painting because he loves you or hates you to the bone after you offended him?”

After thinking about it, Bailey assumed, “I think it's because he hates me. I was the one who inflicted the wound on the corner of his eye.”

“D*mn.” Zain leaped. “He isn't going to take his anger out on me for losing to you, is he? I'm your apprentice, after all.”

“It's possible. The Cameron I know is a vengeful and devious schemer. He's cruel and disregards human life. You're on your own.”

Upon hearing that, he was rendered speechless.

After Bailey stepped out of the laboratory and passed by Wendy's ward, she hesitated for a moment before entering the room.

Wendy was lying on the bed watching television. When she saw Bailey walking in, surprise colored her face.

After all, she was once enemies with Victoria and thus came into conflict with Bailey multiple times before.

Even though she had stayed in the medical base for a while, Bailey never visited her. “Are you here to settle the score with me?”

In response, Bailey paused and narrowed her eyes at Wendy.

After a few seconds of staring, Bailey smirked.

“Truth be told, I never saw you as a threat. I'm putting up with you for Juliana's sake. Besides, Holden showed respect to me because of you. Hence, I thought I should be more magnanimous and forgive you.”

Peering at Bailey's punchable face, Wendy grinned. “You're not as unlikeable as I thought, Bailey. In fact, I quite like you.”

Lifting her eyebrow, Bailey approached the bed, pulled away the blanket, and examined Wendy's abdomen. I recall her injury is located here...

Shocked, Wendy reflexively tried to stop Bailey. “What are you doing?”

“Inspecting your injury. I'm a woman, too. Do you think I'll do something to you?”

Silently, Wendy retracted her hand. Then, she lay down and asked, “Do you have any news about Julie's whereabouts? What happened to her after she returned to the family? Did the elders make things difficult for her?”

While examining Wendy's wound, Bailey spoke. “Everyone should bear their own responsibilities. Your willfulness caused you to be exiled after you broke the family rules. As such, the heavy responsibilities you left behind have to be shouldered by Julie. Right now, she's surrounded by enemies on all sides and walking on thin ice. How well do you think she's faring?”

An expression of guilt settled on Wendy's countenance. “I heard Julie's pregnant. It's Zeke's child, right?”

Bailey smiled silently. She's really not getting any of the latest information, huh? That news is pretty old by now. Still, I don't plan to spill too much to her. If she's agitated and starts to act irrationally, no one can do anything about her without Holden around.

“Your wound's fine. I'll give you a bottle of ointment in a few days. Just apply it directly on your skin to remove the scar. Don't overthink things and wait for Holden to return.” Upon ending her sentence, she turned and ambled to the exit.

Gritting her teeth, Wendy asked again, “Is the baby in Julie Zeke's?”

Bailey halted her steps. Instead of turning back, she remained quiet for a few moments before answering, “She's stubborn, and she never gives up halfway. Do you think she'll fall for someone else in such a short amount of time?” I've answered her question indirectly. Hopefully, this will work.

Then she exited the room.

Wendy's mind was thrown into chaos as she stared at the entrance blankly. Julie is suffering in my place. I was supposed to bear those responsibilities, but I forsook everything for a man who didn't even put me before anything else.

Suddenly, the phone sitting on the table next to her bed rang, consequently pulling her back to reality.

She grabbed the phone and glanced at it. It was from her aunt.

It's been a long time since I've had contact with my family. After unlocking her phone, Wendy asked, “Is that you, Aunt Miranda?”

“You need to return quickly to save Julie, Wends. She's in a horrible situation right now!” Miranda pleaded.

That stunned Wendy. What does Aunt Miranda mean by that?

Moments of silence later, she asked, “Hasn't Julie returned to the Hoffman family? I heard she even has an engagement with Huntley. Additionally, my father plans to pass the position of the head of the family to—”

“What are you saying, Wends? Didn't you hear about Julie's miscarriage and Huntley's incapacitation? Not only that, the family has imprisoned them and is preparing to dispose of them.”
