He was slightly tempted after being provoked. Now that the toxin had entered his body, he wouldn't live much longer. Should he really tell Bailey and then drag her along to face death together? He felt it was impossible to find the antidote.

The Yablon family had been researching generation after generation but hadn't made much progress.

Maerlus had also researched this but died from the toxin. This poison was a curse. Anyone who got poisoned would meet an unfortunate end.

Countless people died from this poison. No one had ever survived it. Otherwise, people's expressions wouldn't change drastically upon hearing about Soul Reaper.

“Artemis, you hesitated. You were tempted. If I were you, I would stay far away from Bailey, and it's best to create some misunderstandings to make her give up completely. Then, find a secluded place to await your death slowly. Don't make her suffer with you.”

Artemis suddenly closed his eyes. His fingers gripping the phone were trembling slightly.

“Mr. Yablon, you're really good at manipulating people. I'm truly impressed. However, this is my personal matter, and it's none of your business. Since you advised me not to tell Bailey, I assume you can keep this a secret, right?” Cameron smiled faintly.

“Of course, as long as you don't say anything, I guarantee that Bailey won't find out about this matter. I'm not trying to throw a wet blanket. You can only wait for your death after getting poisoned by Soul Reaper. Since Sofie and the others dared to use this poison, they must have been certain that there is no antidote. Those who were poisoned would almost certainly die.”

Artemis remained silent and hung up the call.

Beep!

His phone rang, and as he glanced down, he saw it was a call from Bailey. She was most likely inquiring about Shannon's situation. He turned towards Holden and gestured for him to come over. Then, he handed Holden the phone.

“You should answer the call. Just say that I'm dealing with important matters, and it's not convenient for me. If she asks about it, tell her the truth about everything except about me getting poisoned.”

“All right.”

Holden took the phone and walked to the other side to take the call.

Artemis turned to look at Micah and asked, “What are your plans for the future? It seems like your heart is no longer with Tarragon. Once she leaves, I guess you won't have the ambition to become an international hero anymore, right?”

Micah couldn't help but laugh.

“You really know me well. That's right. All I want now is to protect her silently. Even if she never forgives me, and there's no other way, I still don't want to give up.”

“Go ahead and do what you want to do, but I won't allow you to leave the organization. You can have your own private life, but when Tarragon needs you, you must return immediately.”

“All right, I won't leave. Just give me some personal space to watch over her. There's still a long future ahead of us, and I hope time can heal everything, allowing her to let go of the past and accept me once again.”

“Live each day with this hope, then. As long as you guys are alive, there's still hope.”

Yeah. As long as we are alive, there is still hope. However, I don't know if I still have this with Bailey.

Meanwhile, inside the Hallsbay's medical base ward, Veronique leaned against the headboard as she reached out and held Bailey's wrist.

She said weakly, “I know the condition proposed by Mr. Yablon. Bay, please don't accept it. I don't want you to ruin your happiness to save me.”

Bailey reached out and embraced her.

“Don't get agitated. I won't agree to his demands. Vero, if anything happens to you because of my selfishness, I'll die alongside you.”

Veronique slowly reached out her hand and smacked Bailey's forehead.

“Get rid of this thought, Bailey. You're not my parents, so why put your life in danger for me? I can only leave my life to fate. I have cancer, and there's no doubt that I will die. Using toxins for treatment is already an act against natural laws, and now that it isn't working, it is my fate. I can't blame anyone for it.”

Bailey couldn't help but smile bitterly. She understood the rationale but couldn't get over the hurdle in her heart. If all else failed, she could tie up Cameron, hypnotize him, and force him to concoct the toxin.

She couldn't just stand by and watch Veronique slowly approach her death.

“All right. We have done our best. If we still can't save your life, I'll accept it. However, we haven't reached the end yet. Don't give up. There's always hope.”

“Okay.”

Beep!

The phone on the bedside table rang. Bailey leaned over and saw that it was a call from Zain.

“Excuse me. I need to take this call.”

“Okay.” Bailey took out the phone and left the ward. She leaned against the wall and swiped the answer button.

“What's wrong? Is Mr. Fletcher's situation really bad?”

“Yes, it's slightly tricky. The bizarre thing is, they've invited a hypnotist, who claims to be Ethereal's senior.”
