“What should I do then? Mr. Doyle is making big moves now, and I must stop him from joining forces with Sofie and Philip. So, I really can't get away at the moment.”

Bailey slowly leaned against the wall, and after a moment of silence, she sighed.

“As long as you're safe and sound, I can rest assured letting you handle things outside. Artemis, if there's an emergency, you must tell me right away. Don't hide anything from me. We're in this together now, and we'll face whatever comes our way.”

“Sure, don't worry. I'm doing well. Don't you have anything you want to tell me?” Bailey hesitated for a moment, a flicker of hesitation crossing her eyes.

Did he already know that I'd agreed to let Cameron become my lackey?

“Well, there is something I wanted to tell you. Earlier, Cameron suggested that I kick you away, and then he'd save Veronique. But I absolutely refused to do so. Later on, he loosened up and said that I don't have to abandon you, but I must agree to let him become my subordinate. I can't delay treating Vero's illness any longer, so...” she explained.

Artemis snorted.

“And you agreed. Bailey, you really know how to get lucky with romantic encounters.”

Bailey pursed her lips and said in a pleasing tone, “I'll cut off my relationship with other men myself, so you don't need to worry about it. Please don't be angry. When you get upset, my heart aches too.”

Hearing that, Artemis snorted coldly twice and warned, “Cameron is a cunning and unpredictable person. Be careful, and don't let him deceive you.”

“Okay, I'll listen to you. Since I'm being so well-behaved, do I get a reward?” Artemis chuckled softly.

“What do you want? I can get you anything, except for the stars in the sky.” When Bailey heard that, she couldn't help but roll her eyes.

“Usually, men would say they can pick the stars from the sky for a woman. How does the situation change when it comes to you? But on the other hand, I'm not that bored to make such an impossible request. I just hope you can come back soon because I miss you so much.”

After a brief moment of silence, Artemis' deep and hoarse voice came through the phone.

“All right, I'll settle it quickly and try to get back as soon as possible. Bailey, please take care of yourself. Your health is the most important, whether it be now or in the future.”

After some thought, Bailey replied earnestly, “I promise to take good care of myself for now. When you return, you can help me recuperate. If you don't come back, there's not much point in me living anyway.”

“Bailey...”

“All right, enough talking. I need to apply the medicine for Edmund. Artemis, take good care of yourself. You're responsible for two lives. If anything happens to you, I'll be done for as well.”

After saying that, Bailey immediately ended the call. She believed in her hypnosis and dream-tailoring skills.

Since she had controlled Cameron before and hadn't gotten any information from him, it proved that she was indeed overthinking things.

Artemis had been in charge of Tarragon for so many years, and nothing had ever gone wrong. A betrayal by an elder shouldn't leave him helpless, let alone risk his life.

She shouldn't let her thoughts run wild, nor should she wish for something bad to happen to him.

“Bay, why are you standing here? Has something happened?” Felicity's voice reached Bailey's ears, pulling Bailey back from her wandering thoughts. Bailey instinctively looked up and saw Felicity's face filled with anxiety.

She couldn't help but ask in confusion, “I'm fine, but what about you?” Felicity took a deep breath, steadying her rapid breathing, and sighed.

“Caridee said she was going to see a friend, and I thought staying in the hospital room all the time wasn't good for her recovery, so I agreed. But it's been a whole day, and she hasn't come back yet, and I can't get through to her on the phone.”

Without needing to guess, Bailey knew exactly where she had gone. That girl's temperament was quite similar to Juliana's. Both of them were stubborn to the core. Once they made up their minds, no one could change them.

“Don't worry just yet. I'll have someone look into the immigration records to see if we can find any trace of her. Then I'll give Veikko a call and ask him to keep an eye out. She's most likely gone to find him.”

“All right. I know you're busy, yet that girl still causes you trouble. It's my fault for not teaching my daughter well. Sorry for making you worry too.”

Bailey reached out and hugged Felicity, resting her head on her shoulder, and said with a smile, “Mom, don't say that. Caridee is my sister and Zayron's aunt. If you're being polite, it means you don't consider me part of the family.”

Hearing that, Felicity reached out and patted Bailey on the back, hesitating for a moment before saying, “There are no perfect parents in this world. Despite any past mistakes, they are the ones who gave you life. In the past, I've had my fair share of conflicts with you, yet you can still forgive me and call me 'Mom.' How can you not forgive them?”

Bailey remained silent.

Is she asking me to forgive Mr. and Mrs. Shurmer?

Indeed, they were her biological parents—the people she should have trusted and relied on the most. Yet now, they seemed as unfamiliar as strangers, which was truly lamentable.

Nevertheless, she was already past the age of needing a father's and mother's love.

“Mom, I don't hold any deep grudges against them. It's just that their repeated targeting has left me feeling disheartened. Besides, I don't really rely on them at the moment, so let's see what the future holds.”
