Caridee's legs suddenly went weak, and she almost fell to the ground. What were they saying? The Tarragon leader died of poisoning?

“Artemis passed away?” she thought. No! There was no way! It could not be possible. Artemis was known for his immense power and influence, making him virtually untouchable on the international stage. It was indeed perplexing how someone of his stature could meet such an untimely demise.

She leaped out, propped herself against the wall, and grabbed one of the female bodyguards by the wrist, urgently asking, “Who did you just say died?”

The female bodyguard's eyes flashed with a hint of fierceness.

“It's this darn girl who keeps clinging to Veikko. She used her innocence and ignorance to bewitch him. Veikko is such a cold and indifferent man. His footsteps never lingered for any woman, and there had never been any desire for the opposite sex in his eyes. Because of this girl, he released the Mastiff, ruined the Carter family's head, and became the public enemy targeted by everyone in Epea. Does she think that just because she's a member of the Luther family, she can do whatever she wants in the Saviors? This place is not a place where she can run wild,” she thought.

“I said that the Tarragon leader has died. Is it related to you in any way?”

At this point, the female bodyguard suddenly seemed to understand and pretended to be surprised, saying, “Could it be that the Tarragon leader is actually your lover? Unexpectedly, the pure and flawless Ms. Caridee is so unrestrained outside, with bed partners all around the world. It truly opens my eyes.”

No sooner had her words left her mouth than a strong gust of wind rushed straight towards her from the front. In the next moment, a crisp sound echoed through the corridor.

The other female bodyguards were so frightened that they quickly knelt down, trembling as they called out “Mr. Veikko.”

They hung their heads, not daring to even breathe heavily. The female bodyguard, who had been slapped by the young man, covered her cheek with her hand. She had tears in her eyes as she choked out, “Mr. Veikko, what did I do wrong for you to slap me?”

The young man's face was cold. He had never slapped a woman before. It was his first time. Upon hearing the words “bed partners,” he could no longer suppress the rage boiling within him.

Such insulting words should not be used on Caridee, as it would be a desecration to her.

“Apologize to her.” The female bodyguard wasn't really a bodyguard, because she was the daughter of the person in charge of the Saviors branch. In Moranta, she was quite a well-known socialite.

“Why should I apologize to her? She was overly agitated about the death of the Tarragon leader, and I seriously suspect that she was his mistress. She got close to you in order to...”

Before she could finish speaking, the young man suddenly raised his hand and fiercely slapped her across the face again.

Then, through clenched teeth, he squeezed out the words, “Apologize.” Mindy suddenly burst into tears with a loud wail.

In all her life, she had never experienced such an injustice. Her father was, after all, the branch master of the Asura Gate, and could be considered a local bigwig.

On ordinary days in the department, she acted without restraint. Who would dare to criticize or scold her? Yet, the vice-leader slapped her for the sake of a lowly girl with impure intentions, and it happened in front of so many people. How could she accept it?

More importantly, the man was also the object of her admiration. He actually hit her for another woman. How could she swallow such humiliation? Witnessing Mindy's enraged expression, her eyes wide open with a burning desire to exact brutal vengeance upon Caridee, Veikko's demeanor instantly turned grave. A palpable air of intensity surrounded him, and a glimmer of bloodlust flickered in his piercing hawk-like gaze.

“Do you want to visit the Prudent Hall? If so, I don't mind taking you in for a proper experience.”

Mindy's legs went weak with fright, and her whole body couldn't help but tremble. She had heard of methods, and she knew better than to expect him to spare her out of respect for her father.

A tremendous fear enveloped her, forcing her to open her mouth and apologize to Caridee. Her verbal compromise masked the growing intensity of her hatred towards Caridee, which continued to fester and strengthen within her heart.

The humiliation she suffered was all thanks to Caridee. She'd better pray not to fall into her hands. Otherwise, she would tear off her pure and flawless skin, throw herself into a pile of men, and make her become unbearably filthy.

“Get out of here, all of you!” Veikko roared at the group.

Mindy covered her face and turned around before rushing out of the corridor. Upon seeing the situation, the other female bodyguards also scrambled away.

Veikko observed Caridee, who was slouched on the bench with a vacant expression on her face.

A silent sigh escaped from within him. He probably had to help Bailey and hide the truth from Caridee. Caridee was too naive. If he told her the truth about Artemis not being dead, she might not be able to keep her mouth shut and might spill the beans right away.

Even if she did not speak out, she would not be able to resist the deliberate probing of those who are determined. If she accidentally spilled the beans, then Bailey and Artemis's plan would come to naught.

“This is the way to the kitchen. Are you hungry?”

He crouched in front of her, holding her hand as he spoke to her.

Caridee abruptly regained her composure, gripping Veikko's wrist tightly, her voice quivering as she questioned, “Veikko, they're spreading rumors, aren't they? Artemis isn't really dead, right? He's alive, isn't he?”

“No,” the young man shook his head, speaking slowly.

“He was poisoned by the incurable Soul Reaper. Your sister-in-law has been searching for an antidote all these days, but the results have been disappointing. Your elder brother succumbed to the poison two hours ago.”
