Sweet Subterfuge

Chapter 226

Chapter 226
Kevan didn’t care. He clapped, and two waiters appeared out of nowhere. Then, they served them
food
The main course consisted of a tender steak served with a glass of wine. As Kevan raised his glass, a deep, captivating light gleamed in his eyes.
“Cheers to our marriage,” he said to Larissa.
Larissa gently clinked glasses with him. “Cheers to our marriage.”
They exchanged glances with a smile and finished the wine in a gulp.
The neon lights illuminated the night, casting a vibrant display of colors. Larissa cut her steak and looked outside. With genuine admiration, she remarked, “It’s beautiful here.”

“If you like it here, we can come whenever you like.” Kevan stared at her, and his tone was gentle.
Puzzled, Larissa turned to look at him and met his burning gaze. It made her heart pound, and she could feel her cheeks burning.
“That’s great,” she murmured, her voice tinged with a gentle softness as she lowered her head.
Suddenly, the music stopped, and the chandelier overhead flickered off. Larissa gasped, ‘Is this a power outage?”
“Look up,” Kevan said
Larissa followed his instructions and saw a streak of light shot through the night sky, leaving behind a bright arc.
“It’s a meteor!” Larissa exclaimed, setting aside her cutlery and reaching for her phone. However, Kevan quickly grabbed her left hand before she could retrieve it. Before she could react, she felt a hard, cold object being placed on her ring finger. The thing gleamed brightly as the moonlight hit it, casting a dazzling glow in the darkness.
To her surprise, the object turned out to be a diamond-a sizeable one at that. While not as large as a pigeon’s egg, it was still an incredibly luxurious item. Larissa had never seen anything quite like it, and the sight filled her with happiness.
The meteor disappeared quickly. Soon, the sky returned to its original state. With that, the chandelier lit up again, but the band was gone.
Larissa looked at Kevan in a daze and asked, “Why are you giving this to me?”
“It’s to make up for the proposal I never gave you,” Kevan let go of her and picked up his cutlery.
“It might be a fake marriage, but we will have everything a real marriage has. Otherwise, we risk exposing our secret when we face my parents.”
“Oh…” Larissa clenched her fingers, and the happy feeling she had earlier was gone. Then, she took a slice of meat and ate it. However, it didn’t taste as good as it was earlier.
