Sweet Subterfuge

Chapter 273

Chapter 273
To avoid encountering Edmund, Larissa spent most of the following days wandering around the guest rooms downstairs. Whenever she spotted a housekeeping staff member cleaning a room, she would enter to conduct a “surprise inspection.”
She understood that developing habits took time, and despite the housekeeping staff’s efforts, there were still some minor shortcomings. For less serious issues, she corrected them and let them go. But for more severe problems, she made a note and imposed fines. Those who disobeyed her management and were dissatisfied with the penalties were simply fired.
In just a week’s time, she earned the nickname “Devil” among her colleagues. However, instead of feeling offended, she felt somewhat
satisfied-after all, everyone was afraid of her and conscientiously carried out their work.
The only burden she felt was during the weekly department meeting when Edmund specifically praised her and made a joke about her
being called the “Devil” by her subordinates. Although he intended to encourage others to learn from her and be strict with their

subordinates, she still heard a few ambiguous chuckles.
After the meeting, she overheard the head and deputy managers of the F&B Department discussing the incident.
“What’s there to be proud of about being called the ‘Devil’? Doesn’t that just prove that she’s not well-liked?”
“Well, Mr. Rogers was just finding an excuse to publicly praise her. Don’t take it too seriously!” another replied.
“True I even saw him having lunch alone with her last time. They came out of the private dining room together.”

Larissa never expected her rumored relationship with Edmund to spread so quickly within the hotel. She couldn’t possibly explain to each and every person, nor could she follow in the footsteps of some celebrities and issue a formal statement. Such actions would only make others think she was trying to hide something. Luckily, she only had one more week left here, and whatever others said would no longer concern her.
However, what she hadn’t anticipated was that Edmund had applied to transfer her from Covenford. He never asked for her opinion nor informed her when he submitted the application. She only found out because the general manager of Covenford’s Regal Dynasty Hotel called her to question, “You’ve only been there for a few days, and now you don’t even want to come back?”
Larissa was completely puzzled. She asked, “When did I say I didn’t want to go back to Covenford?”
“Still pretending!” The general manager grew more infuriated. “Headquarters sent me an email saying they want to transfer you to Bartham!
