"I spoiled Leopold; it was my doing that led him to his demise. If only I had been firm, arranged a proper match for him instead of letting him chase after that Thalassa, he wouldn't have strayed from the right path. My son, Leopold, it's Mom who failed you."

Amelia, releasing one hand from the infant she held, clutched at her hair, howling in agony.

Her inner fragility had completely shattered. For years, Leopold's death had been a thorn in her heart, a hurdle she could never seem to overcome.

Now, with Payton laying bare the true cause of Leopold's demise, Amelia's facade crumbled. She had always blamed Thalassa and Lysander for Leopold's fate, as if harboring that resentment was the only way she could survive.

For all these years, she never dared to face the real reason behind Leopold's death, fearing that acknowledging it would strip her of the courage to go on living under her pretense.

It was a terrifying thought, and Amelia had managed by convincing herself that Thalassa and Lysander were to blame for Leopold's death. That belief allowed her to hate them, to carry herself with an air of superiority.

She had forgotten that it was she who had knelt before Lysander, begging him not to publicize Leopold's misdeeds, to let her son leave this world with dignity, not branded as a murderer even in death. Now, Payton's blunt revelation had shattered Amelia's defenses.

Seeing Amelia's guard down, Payton quickly swooped in to take the child from her arms, immediately handing the baby over to a doctor. "Hurry, save him, please!"

"My baby, don't take my baby away!" Amelia, coming to her senses, tried to retrieve her child.
